Guest guest
One side of Liam's face is red -- from under the eye on down his cheek. It was red one day last week in school, too. The nurse at school called me today. She is very concerned & wants a doctors note explaining it. I'm taking him tomorrow, but any ideas? She won't tell me what she thinks it might be. We thought maybe he was leaning on the bus window, but its the wrong side. I figured it's chapped skin from the cold, but why only one side? He says nothing hurts. Maybe a one-sided sinus infection? It can't be from sleep because he's all over the bed & I doubt he sleeps in one place long enough. Kathy, Liam's mom( 5)

Thank . I didn't think of that. We have an 8:30 am appt with the pediatrician. I like to have some idea before I go in. Why wait till the last minute to worry! Guest guest
The part about it being there last week and then leaving doesn't make sense but the one thing I think of when I hear about a red face is cellulitis. It's actually a skin infection that can come from an infected bug bite or from something in the sinuses. It is very serious - had it on his face. Bright red. It might feel a little warm to the touch. (the red area) I would def. have it checked out although, like I said, cellulitis would not leave and return (that I am aware of). You would need antibiotics - you would NOT want it going into the eye. in Dallas Any ideas? Part 2 One side of Liam's face is red -- from under the eye on down his cheek. Guest guest
Sorry all. Liam's red face turned out to be very minor. Antibiotic ointment is all we need. I'm glad she's so vigilant, but the school nurse really scared me. I got two phone calls and she wanted a note from the doctor. I watch his health closely especially in the winter. Last night I had trouble sleeping thinking I missed something really serious. Then I start wondering what else I'm missing...
