Guest guest
Hi! This is a question for those of you with older boys. Ben is going to be 11 the middle of February and is already showing signs of puberty if you know what I mean. Is this early? I didn't think this happened until boys hit about 13 or so. Also, what can I expect during this time. He already is hungry constantly, growing out of his clothes and showing signs of independence. Thanks for any comments. M. Guest guest
I think our children with DS hit puberty a bit earlier than the general population.....at least this is true of the children with whom I compare notes with their parents in my area. My line was always, " Sure, they're delayed in all other areas, but not this one!!!! " Facial hair and body hair was definately emerging by age 11 for him. The only thing I had and still occasionally have trouble with is his ability to understand when it is appropriate to ........how shall I phrase this.......touch himself or whatever. I know he doesn't grasp the concept of sexuality and whatnot and I really don't know how to put it simply to him. I just make sure if there is a time he needs to do this or that, that he understands he needs to be away from others and in the privacy of his room. He is a typical young man with natural urges and this certainly isn't a big problem, but it is something I keep tabs on because, like any other teenage, he enjoys hanging in his room and doesn't appreciate someone coming in without knocking first~! His voice is changing and he has more of a mustache than his 14 yr old brother. And tonight, he got his first pimple! And he is GIRL CRAZY! ¸...¸ __/ /\____ ____ ,·´º o`·,/__/ _/\_ //____/\ ```)¨(´´´ | | | | | | | || |l±±±± | ¸,.-·²°´ ¸,.-·~·~·-.,¸ `°²·-. :º° As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. 24:
Guest guest
entered puberty this past summer. He turned 10 in August. I thought something was wrong with him and made his doctor look to see if everything was normal at his annual checkup in November. He said he's not the average Joe, but still within normal limits. I even consulted with my older son, who at first didn't want to hear anything - but when I told him I had no point of reference for a 10 year old boy (having not seen him naked since age 7), I really needed his input. He looked and I'd better have him checked out. I don't see any facial or underarm hair, yet. And for masturbation, that started about a year before that. It took some work, but he now gets embarassed if caught. If I tell him to go to his room if he wants to do that, he tells me " no, you leave " . At the beginning, he could care less where he was or who was watching...now he does. Puberty? Hi! This is a question for those of you with older boys.
