Why hello again!

Geesh, you do not get any email from me in months and suddenly you recieve

three within half an hour! WOW! Must be your lucky night! LOL

Okay, time to get serious. Everyone that knows me know that asthma is an

illness that I know alot about. I had read that one of the " new " family

memebers had questions or was talkign about it or something. Everyone that

knows me also knows that this is something that I can go on for ever with.

So I hope who ever was asking about it, reads this.

I have had chronic asthma since I was four years old. From my asthma, I

only use half of my lungs. From this, my breathing is more shallow then

" normal " people's. And, from this, I have fainting spells. I will start

breathing so shallow that I do not breath enough and I faint. This happens

without my knowledge. I have learned to catch myself before i completely

faint though. Yet, sometimes, it does sneak up on me. I know alot about

asthma and almost any questions or concerns you have, I can answer. I have

spent weeks in hospitals, months on steriods. Presently, if my asthma

bothers me the doctors really do not want to put me on steriods again

because I have been on them so much they are worried that it will start

harming me. When my asthma bothers me, usually it is steriod time. I wish

that the person with questions, or concern, or anythign on this illness

would reply. I know I can help! Trust me on this one!

Love always,

Leigh

I hope that you are feeling better soon. This year seems to be awful for

asthmatics. What meds are you on? I know that when my asthma gets really bad

I use ventolin and atrovent together in my nebulizer. Maybe you should call

you doc if the meds are making you cough so bad. Or maybe you're not using

it enough. I have had more than one doc tell me to used every 2-3 hours when

it's bad. Yeah I shake really bad too but being able to breath is an ok

trade-off.

I have a handicap card too and I get the " Looks " . Don't let it bother you.

I guess people figure if you have the card you should be in a wheelchair or

falling out of the car with oxygen on your face. My sister thinks it's

great. When I got it she informed me that I was taking her to do all her

Christmas shopping!! My son loves it too because we always get a good

parking space. I have mine because of chronic pain and necrosis in my hip,

both things you can't see, so I look fine. I guess people who have never

been sick don't realise how good you can get at " looking fine " . Don't let

then bother you, they don't know you and the people who do, know why you have

it.

Hope your breathing gets better soon, I know what a hard time that can give

you.

hi,

i joined this group i think a little oevr a week ago and then have been very

sick every since. i have severe asthma. i had pneumonia for several years

in a row as an adult and now have asthma. had to get a handicapped card

because of it. i hope no one minds if i just vent here.

last week i had the tummy flu, bad sinus infection that settled in my eyes,

they swelled shut, strep throat, high fever and bronchitis. i can't remember

being this sick in forever. i lost 5 days i don't remember. today is the

first day i have been up in about 8 days. i am still so weak and shaky. of

course the asthma makes it worse.

ny dr and i laugh, when i first went to her she listened to my lungs and

asked me how long i had smoked. i have never smoked a day in my life but my

lungs sound that way.

i have felt faint when i have had trouble breathing and lost several hours.

the dr has me on steriods right now. i am on enough meds to choke a horse

LOL.

i am just tired of having trouble breathing and hurting. ok i have a

question. i have a nebulizer i use 4 times a day. with this round of being

sick using it seems to make me cough more. why? and i shake so bad from the

side effects from the meds. always have done that.

do you have a handicapped card? i am 33 and don't look sick alot of the

time. i get some strange looks when i park in the handicapped space and get

out. but there are many days without it i could not go anywhere.

thanks for letting me just vent. i am tired of being sick and hurting and

taking meds LOL but better then not breathing huh.

Hugs N Luvs,

Char

Jessi,

Glad to see youu post. My goodness, it's been a rough couple offf years for

you. How is the home schooling going? Do you feel like you're missing things

kids your age do, like proms and stuff? Sounds like even shopping, something

most girls your age love, can be really difficult.

Have your docs ever said anything about outgrowing your asthma? I know my

son had it really bad when he was young, and we used to spend alot of time in

the ER with him but as he got older it got less, now it never bothers him.

With me I got mine as an adult, so go figure

Glad you're posting here with us, but wish it was for different reasons,

you're too young to have to deal with all of this.

Hi ,

I really like home schooling!!! It is a lot harder then just regular school and I need that to keep focused. If a teacher just gives me a little work I can't seem to motivate myself to get it done, but with home schooling I can work at what ever pace I want (as long as I'm not getting behind). I've been doing about a chapter in math every two weeks, a section in Spanish every week, in English (my worst subject) I read about a chapter a week in a book, and three writing assignments a week. I usually get straight A's, but I have a new teacher this year and she gave me a C in English:( I'm not good in English, but I didn't deserve a C! I really don't think that I'm missing much not being at school! I wouldn't go to proms or football games or anything like that any way. I grew up in some very bad situations as an infant/toddler and by the time I was in kindergarten I was sooooo much more mature then all of the other 5 y/o that I just di!

dn't fit in, and I never have. Even before my asthma got out of hand I really disliked shopping!!!!!!!!!! It just isn't something that I like. I have sensory integration dysfunction. It is kind of hard to explain. Some kids, adults too, have a have problems with socks (because of the seam in it), others can't stand people touching them (it actually "hurts" to us), and others can't get enough of people/things touching them and will throw themselves on people and objects when they are a child. The list can go on. I'm one of the people who can't stand people touching me, so standing in lines or just being in a crowded mall is some times over whelming. I know that it sound strange, but a lot of people have it.

My doctors have talked to me about "outgrowing" asthma, and I did. I was dx with severe asthma when I was 9 y/o, by the time I was 12 y/o it was so mild I rarely used my albuterol, and then when I was 13 y/o it came back worse then before, and uncontrollable. They really don't want to say that I will "outgrow" it because the chances are very slim. I say "any thing can happen!" I have a cousin that almost died from a rare kind of cancer, and I have had three close friends die from different kinds of cancer. I don't consider my asthma that bad anymore! It is a terrible thing to have, and it is a terrible thing to watch a family member go through, but there are much worse things out there! I really do try not to let it get me down.

Take care everyone,

Jessi () 16 y/o

Hi Jessi!

Welcome to the list. *hugs*

I'm , and I joined this group as a caregiver to my son, .

also had sensory integration dysfunction, tho it only seemed

to trouble him in the legs/ feet areas. Any other place he loved to be

touched. His doctors seemed to think that it was related to his lower extremity

migraines. He couldn't stand to wear socks, and if you touched his legs

and especially feet, he would just cry so pitifully! Matty also had oral

aversion, which is like SID, except for in the mouth. He wouldn't take

a bottle, any kind of food substance at all. Only a pacifier!! lol

Matty had reactive airway disease, and that affected him a lot

like asthma does. Most times, it caused lots of pneumonias, and often hyperinflation.

His lungs would get so irritated that the passages would swell closed and

trap air inside.

I'm so glad that you've found us! Again, welcome!!

*hugs*

Jessi,

You sound like you have so much of it together, mentally and dealing with all

of it. You have a great positive attitude. I hope that anything (goof that

is) does happen for you. You are young and deserve the chance to enjoy all

the things in life you want to.

Good luck and keep studying!!!

Love Kely
