Guest guest
You might be interested in the following links that I found: http://www.uvadvantage.org Holick book on UV http://www.sperti.com Makes sunlamps and a " vitamin D lamp " . Dermatologists are rolling over in their graves, but it may make sense to expose a small, controlled area of the body that you can check for skin lesions (like your tummy) to a UV lamp for a few minutes each day, as opposed to having to take vitamin D supplements. Of course you have to protect your eyes, etc. Alternatively, you can spend time at the pool, but don't get me started on swimming pools and hot tubs: (oh, the chlorine free radical load, right up the nose or through the eye sockets or lungs and right into the brain!). :-) Anyway, I NEVER KNEW why the skin of Northern Europeans was white. Have you every thought of this? We all began in Africa with dark skin. Those of us who are Northern European - our skin became white. Why? To hide better from polar bears? It seems that the answer has to do with the much higher efficiency of white skin to convert sunlight into vitamin D. So vitamin D must be quite important. Anyway, I just found these sites - I don't recommend them, but I think it's interesting to read a point of view about the importance of sunlight (I just ordered a copy of Holick's book).
