Hello,

My name is Sydney and I am a 63 year old woman. I just found this

group on and I am so glad. I had my Medtronic ICD implanted

three weeks ago today. I know very little about how my implant is

programmed. I do know that my pump is only pumping at 20%. I am also

on a low-salt diet.

I am waiting to hear about cardiac rehab and hoping that I will start

within the next few weeks. I will also see my primary care doctor next

week to get some of my questions answered.

Write down your questions before you see your doc so you forget any.

The Medtronic tech can give you a copy of the program settings the

next time you have the ICD interrogated or your EP can tell you

what the settings are.

My LVEF was 21% when I was first implanted. It is now up to between

39 and 45%. The cardiologist said the combination of meds, a low

salt diet, and exercise helped. The low salt really does help in

preventing

congestive heart failure.

After over 5 years, I have finally learned how to read some of the

symptoms of CHF and adjust my daily living activities and meds until

the heart is working right again.

For me, it's been up and down. When I feel good, I feel really good.

When

I feel bad, I feel really sick.

Good luck with your ICD and your heart condition. We're here for you.

Hi Sydney, Welcome to the group, I don't have an ICD but my 18 year old son does...as a mom I feel as though I live through him, I help him with all his appointments and do all the paperwork necessary for him to live a normal life. My son received his ICD (Medtronic) a year ago in December. I would suggest after speaking with your Electrophysiologist at your next appointment, to give Medtronics a call and ask them to send you information about the ICD and living with it. I did that for my son a few weeks back, they sent us a box of "goodies", pamphlets about daily living, what you should stay away from, what to do in an emergency...and they sent him a replica ICD for him to show his friends...really net. I was so pleased with the information, it was very informative. Go to www.medtronics.com and get their 800 phone number and give them a call. Good luck and take care. Welcome to all of the new and returning members. It seems like we can all deal with the physical stuff a lot easier than the emotional and anxiety conditions. I have been where you are and know that it is really scary going thru this stuff. Meds for depression are definitely a must for most of us....at least until you can adjust to the major changes in your lives.

Keep asking for the support you need.
