Sony is a company, vaio is the model (see them at walmart), dvd is movie

disk (blockbuster, walmart, redbox), hdmi is the plug on the back of a HD

TV, ubuntu is one flavor of linux (looks similar to windows/mac, but it's

free).

Pushing 20 years as a Mac owner and user, I'd have to agree with you, and I'm the first to admit that Apple isn't perfect. Since I'm not into gaming, I don't feel the crunch there but other than that, I've never had a problem with anything else, especially with that awful Office suite and its myriad ubiquitous files installed that lets me communicate with the Windows world (although I have it on good authority that the most recent upgrade for Mac is actually very nice). There's also a lot of nice shareware available at reasonable prices and you don't have to worry that it's going to hang up your computer. And as someone previously stated, Macs are very intuitive. Even if you screw up, you're unlikely to have done any serious damage--the OS is nearly always self-correcting unless you've done something you really shouldn't have like messed around "under the hood."

I switched to a Mac and love it, but for me the learning curve was awful. I wanted to toss the computer out the window for the first month. There are still things I can't figure out and for me it hasn't been as "intuitive" as I've been told it would be. I still have fits with iPhoto.
