After I bought an ounce I went on youtube and watched a few videos. I

envisioned it more like a tea that I brewed in an infuser. I don't think I will

go out and buy a gourd but you never know. Thanks.

Other Enthusiasts should be aware that it was Peggy who got me into both sprouting and brewing my own kombucha; I'm pretty sure that she's owned a Vitamix longer than any of our other members.

re. Yerba Mate

You can find out all about Yerba Mate at www.guayaki.com That's where I buy mine. I don't really care for the taste of it (like ashes!), but their peppermint version is good. I always add sweetener. Check out the videos to see how to authentically brew the yerba mate in the gourd (I have one) and drink it with the bombilla (the straw). It's quite a ritual in the places where this is common. If I sweeten the tea, I can drink it all day from the gourd except for the first brew, which is strong. You keep adding hot water to the leaves in the gourd, so each succeeding batch is a bit weaker, but more palatable IMO.

The people at Guayaki are great to deal with.

Peggy, have you tried any other brands? It seems that there are a gazillion varieties out there (who knew?). I entered a search for Guayakí at Chowhound and it led me all over the place after doing searches on the brands mentioned: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/433511?tag=search_results;results_list . Clearly, I need to head out to Heights to check out the Argentinian grocery that's mentioned. And interestingly, at least something of Guayakí's is sold at Fairway.
