Guest guest
and I just got back froom the EP. Once again he mentioned going with a 3 lead unit. Does anyone here have a 3 lead? He is totally dependant on the unit and I was wondering if the 3 lead would help more than the 2 lead. I understand that the 3 lead makes the heartbeat more natural, but what are the other advantages for a 3 lead? I know it will not help with the COPD, or the TIA's, but will it make the VT's not happen as much. I understand the 3 leads help with the CHF, but what else? is down to 1/3 "tank" of fuel after 39 months of having his unit. He was making plans of going out with a friend of ours for some day trips "out" in the ocean. The EP nicely told him "I would advise against that". So he is a little depressed. He can do in shore activities so if something happens we would not be that far from shore. So his boating activities have now been limited and he is a little depressed about that. I guess we will not get the record breaker this year ;-) Thanks Gail
Guest guest
By the 3rd lead, are they talking about bi-ventricular pacing? That is where the pacemaker paces both the right ventricle and the left ventricle. Mine is wired to do that, but they have not had to activate the right ventricle pacing yet. If the battery has lasted 39 months at 1/3 usage, that doesn't sound bad at all. They said mine would last about five years. At the rate you have, it should last at least that, even with the bi-ventricular pacing. Tommy Biventricular Pacing: In the normal heart, the heart's lower chambers (ventricles) pump at the same time and in sync with the heart's upper chambers (atria). When a person has heart failure, often the right and left ventricles do not pump together. When the heart's contractions become out of sync, the left ventricle is not able to pump enough blood to the body. This eventually leads to an increase in heart failure symptoms, such as shortness of breath, dry cough, swelling in the ankles or legs, weight gain, increased urination, fatigue, or rapid or irregular heartbeat. http://my.webmd.com/content/article/51/40687?src=Inktomi & condition=Heart_Disease -----Original Message-----From: Gail Forbes [mailto:charade799@...]Sent: Monday, February 16, 2004 3:53 PM Subject: where 2 from here? and I just got back froom the EP. Guest guest
Gail: If by 3-lead unit, you mean a bi-ventricular unit, then in April of this year, had one that replaced his old one. And it does seem to have helped him. He can walk further and has less trouble with shortness of breath.
