Hello ,

Since you are going to be using Kale soon, I thought I'd mention that I find the stem of the Kale too fibrous. After you wash the Kale leaf, if you grab the stem at the bottom you can often strip the leaves off of the stem in one pull (when it goes well :-) When it doesn't, I just fold the leaf in half at the stem and break/pinch the leaf away from the stem with my fingers.

Re: Men who don't eat "anything green"

It was really funny how my husband reacted to the mention of a "green smoothie." "What?!" he said. I told him that all he had to do was taste it just once (sounds like what folks do with their kids!) and that if he didn't like it, he didn't have to have it ever again. What a gamble! Thankfully, he loved it.Hey, it's great that your husband makes his own. I haven't gotten that far yet, but I can see that happening. Today we had one, and I put in a handful of broccoli sprouts. There were more greens (chard and spinach) and a little less fruit. It wasn't as wonderful as some I've made, but still very good.I really liked the chard, as it is very mild. I'm going to get brave and try some kale pretty soon.>> Your husband sounds like my son who would NEVER eat anything green as a child. He once refused to eat some pot roast (which he loved!) because he found a tiny piece of parsley in his serving. Last time he and his wife were here, I made a green smoothie and he did taste it and actually enjoyed it. Now they make them at their home. > > Also, my husband was never much of a veggie eater (especially averse to green leafy stuff!) until I began making the green smoothies. Now he makes his own! But he seems stuck on either romaine or spinach. I buy chard and kale and collards, and unless I use them myself, they tend to just wither in the fridge.> > Swiss chard is a particular favorite of mine since childhood. I don't hear of many people who use it these days. A shame, since it's such a good green.> > Cheers!> Peggy> > ps...I could not agree more about the Vitamix! I have purchased 4 of them. An upgrade for myself (3600>5000) and one for each of my two sons. Daughter didn't want one - big mistake on her part!>
