Guest guest
I'm not really the expert - I think people have different tastes and ways they like things. If I were you I'd try it your way and then the way I would do it and see which one suits YOUR taste :-) I have met a lot of people who use quite a bit of water in their green smoothies and they don't blend nearly as long as I do. Their Green Smoothies have texture in them (which there is NOTHING AT ALL WRONG WITH!!!), but often, I prefer very liquid and smooth "smoothies". Instead of water I use ice and blend for much longer than my friends with the textured Green Smoothies do. I would use the recipe just as the lady stated (with the same amounts) and then use 2 generous cups of ice instead of water and blend until the ice crystals were gone, but the drink was still cold. Considering the extra fiber and the added water (from the ice) this would probably make more than one glass of juice. If you only wanted to make one glass, I'd cut it all in half. BTW, I love to use the whole (peeled) lemon - the bioflavanoids from the pith are good for you. Just remember that any "juice" or "smoothie" made with citrus does not save well and would get bitter within 1/2 hour. It is fine when freshly made, just gets bitter over time... I can't wait to hear what you try and how it comes out! It looks like it would be yummy! Guest guest
Thank you for your comments, I will try it like you suggest. I want fiber, but I was afraid of that whole carrot! I’ll let you know what happens. I’m so surprised you put just ice and no liquid at all!!! I never would have tried that on my own, I always try to put a little liquid in. Thank you for your suggestion of halving it! And I didn’t realize about the breakdown and yes I use pith from my oranges and grapefruits too! Love you, Marsha From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Lea Ann Savage Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2010 12:38 PM To: Subject: Re: LeeAnn help please I'm not really the expert - I think people have different tastes and ways they like things. Guest guest
Halving that carrot might be a good idea. I make "V-8" juices at my shows when it is slow and someone really wants to try an "all veggie smoothie". The carrot DOES add a lot of fiber and color - I'm made the "whole carrot" mistake before. I'd put the cucumber down at the bottom - it will end up as your liquid to get things started blending - also the half lemon (peeled) then the apple then the other ingredients then the ice on top. The ice will end up as water - it just takes longer and that way you can blend for a much longer time and not end up with a hot juice. That longer blending time will break down the fiber more - makes it more "creamy" rather than being able to feel the texture. Guest guest
Peeling your carrots and removing the top and tip make for a better tasting result. I had green juice yesterday, although it was real juice. However, you could just as easily make " total juice " using the Vita-Mix and adding ice. I use the Gerson recipe--romaine, chard, a little cabbage, a little red pepper, and an apple (they suggest Granny , I used Mutsu). I also threw in some celery. You an also throw in other greens if you're so inclined. Yum! Guest guest
Oh. Well, I wasn't kidding. " Topping, " " tailing, " and peeling beets, carrots, and parsnips makes for juice that both tastes and keeps better. Keeping isn't a big deal if you're drinking everything at once (which I don't because I make a half-gallon at a time) but taste is important. In addition, nutritional loss is negligible if these three are peeled unlike, say potatoes or other produce with nutrient-rich skin. I wasn't trying to be humorous--I've been juicing since 1988 (the same year I got my Vita-Mix!) and this is considered " bible " among serious juicers. Re: LeeAnn help please  Halving that carrot might be a good idea. I make " V-8 " juicesatmy shows when it is slow and someone really wants to try an " all veggie smoothie " . The carrot DOES add a lot of fiber and color - I'mmadethe " whole carrot " mistake before. That longer blending time will break down the fiber more - makes it more " creamy " rather than being able to feel the texture.  Blessings, Lea Ann Savage Satellite Beach, FL 321-773-7088 (home) 321-961-9219 (cell) www.VitamixLady.com www..com 13:35 & lt;))) & gt; & lt; LeeAnn help please  LeeAnn, I just found this juice recipe on raw-radiance.com….I’d like to try this in the Vitamix.
