I was in the Army on active duty for 11 years and then spent 9 years in the reserves so that I could retire. I would be happy to write to anyone about some of their concerns - having been in I might be able to offer my experience. I went in when I was 19 yo. My nephew is now in the mariens in CA. I do know to enter the military now is a frightening tiem for paretns but all things have a positive side.
