Guest guest
Greetings Everyone.... Here's hoping all your candidates got elected. Working one night for my old TV station on coverage of the voting reminded me why a heart attack ended my career. I had a relatively stress free job and still managed to have a minor cardiac event. Election coverage is over and I am feeling better, but now... a revived Tropical Storm Mitch is on the horizon. It's always SOMETHING! And now, there's this to worry about: A new report on CNN from Reuters about the threat of those security scanners in stores. This time the warning includes defibrillators. This is about the sixth story dealing with this subject in the past month - half of them generated by the scanner makers claiming the research is faulty. I found out that some of the research was conducted by a Cardiologist in my neighborhood... at a facility in Saint sburg. I've called his office and invited him to join us for a ZAPCHAT. Stay tuned. Speaking of which, I think many people missed the session last week... confused by the time change. It is at 8PM EST in the US on Thursdays. Vic, a subscriber to our fairly new EMail List Service ( ) recently asked if anyone knew the reputation of a certain hospital in NYC. A few days ago, Reuters reported on a web site that grades hospital cardiology departments... by examining a very important statistic: How well their patients survive. Check out the site at http://www.HealthCareReportCards.com If you have not read The ZAPPER for a few weeks, we are launching a new project... compiling a book filled with the thoughts of YOU --- our readers! The idea is to publish something that will help others headed down the road many of us know well. The working title is Zap•Life... but that may change. We just finished the final drafts of the submission forms to collect material and put them on line today. If this site has helped you, please pass on the favor by filling out and submitting the appropriate form. We have one for ICD Recipients, a second for Family Members and Friends, and a third for Health Care Professionals. Access the one you need by going to the FEATURE ARTICLE PAGE: http://www.duff.net/zapper/zap3.htm The submission form for ICD recipients will take the longest to complete... an hour if you answer ever item. But you only have to respond to those questions where you think your comments may help someone else. To make it worthwhile, we will send a free copy of the finished book when published... to anyone who makes a submission. Be sure to invite your family, friends, and health care professionals to make submissions... don't forget to tell them how to find The ZAPPER! Remember in August, our ZAPCHAT guest for one really great session was Buchanon, the Senior Medical Producer at Ivanhoe? She recently returned from Europe, where she examined the Austrian system for organ transplant harvesting. There, everyone is automatically a donor... unless they request not to be one. Guess what? fewer people die waiting for a transplant. To see if the Ivanhoe reports air in your area, take a look at the IBN Client Station List at http://www.ivanhoe.com/docs/hometownnews.html Follow these links to read or view the series online: Part-1 Of November Transplant Series: 60,000 ORGANS NEEDED Read The Story http://www.ivanhoe.com/stream/60000organsneeded.html View The Story http://www.ivanhoe.com/stream/organ.ram Part-2 Of November Transplant Series: DONOR DILEMMA Read The Story http://www.ivanhoe.com/stream/thedonordilemma.html View The Story http://www.ivanhoe.com/stream/donor.ram That's all for now.... Try to tune in tonight at 8PM EST (Florida time) for ZAPCHAT Stay well... Duffey
