Gretings,

I am have just started a hitch in the Congo just off the coast re Point Noir

and can probably see the rig you will be working on....lots around here and the

beach and jungle in sight as well so bring a pair of binos...not much to see in

the city except flooded dirt roads...Do not take photos around the airport or

the town as we were warned not to do so...very nice weather at this time though

chances of occassional serious monsoon rains...lots of whales about the

place....and lots of fishing boats...

Bring your toys but do not bring bring big baggage and lock any check in stuff

securely..you will not need much...our company flew us by charter plane directly

to Point Noir thus by passing the capital...so locals were a bit taken aback to

see a real aeroplane and our resident agent got us through the customs thing

easily so I cannot comment on system at the capital...but definitely less

hostile than Nigeria...make sure you have you Yellow Fever vac cert up to date

as they do check it...get your Malarone started for crew change though this may

not be the mosquito season...bloody big butterflies though...!

My back to back saw just 16 cases in 4 weeks and a few of them were

reveiws...tune up on safe hydration and water testing systems....! Bring dollars

if you are going to bring any cash.

Cheers

Hi all, a total noob here, thought id say hello, and ask for

experiences. Im about to start (next week) my Medics course with

Medicos in Beverley, followed by flying out to the Congo to work on the

Stena Tay drilling platform, with whom i have been lucky enough to gain

permanent employment. Can i ask what are your experiences of working

out there? i get easily bored whilst travelling, so usually have an

ipod or similar to pass the hours, but hear that these make nice

presents for the locals to help themselves to - what do think? Also as

a total newcomer to the Offshore Medic life, can you tell what sort of

things you see in any average day, if such a thing exists? Any tips or

advice you're all willing to pass on? Anythins appreciated.

Cheers
