Guest guest
Hi. As far as I know, you can attend the course but cannot write the exam. Only doctors are allowed to do this. You will only recieve a certificate of attendance. There are other courses that would be more beneficial. The ATCN course is the nurses equivalent of the ATLS. It is also run by the same people who run ATLS and sometimes runs concurrently with the ATLS course. Then there is Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), ACLS, PALS and NRP that might help you. Guest guest
A qualified nurse can attend and take the exam for ATLS in the UK Find a provider, do the course, get the ticket! Guest guest
I can confirm that only doctors can actively participate in ATLS. I co-ordinate the ATLS course in my hospital. Nurses are observers not " participants " Quotes from American College of Surgeons who roll-out the course to the UK through the Royal College of Surgeons in London: " Physician Extenders " include nurses who participate " without expecting or receiving verification of successful course completion " . PHTLS or ATNC are advised as being more appropriate because they are designed for non-doctors. ATLS is good to observe but only doctors get the ticket. Guest guest
Guy's, Thank you very much for the information that all of you have rendered, so I was wondering if any one on the group knows a specific training facility which we could contact and go for a training in the u.k. Guest guest
Felix, The best place to contact would be the royal college of surgeons of england ( www.rsceng.ac.uk ) and see where there are approved centres. After this you will find a problem of the sheer lack of spaces for doctors that means that observer places will be tricky. As suggested it may be worthwhile looking at courses that provide teaching in some ATLS skills rather than the ATLS course itself. Cheers, Ross Felix Gaudiel <fastcraft2004@...> wrote: Guy's, Thank you very much for the information that all of you have rendered, so I was wondering if any one on the group knows a specific training facility which we could contact and go for a training in the u.k.
