Guest guest
Hi Willy, I don't believe in 'diets' either. It's a way of life for me. I won't say that on occasion some of the things I avoid, don;t slip in, sure they do, but not often at all, and not in large amounts. Usually just to take care of that 'craving' I think I have. After I do it, I always feel awful and wonder why in the world I did it. Unfortunately, age does do things to us, that we don't like. Inches/weight will creep on us, and it's harder to lose for some. You said you've gained weight and inches. You said you don't eat more than you used to, that you don't eat sugar. But then you said you eat 2 sandwiches now instead of 1. First off, you are eating more, and also, your bread, if it's regular bread, is full of sugar, so you're doubling that. Add to that the amount of flour and possibly other ingre that will add fat. All that turns to fat, plain and simple. You didn't mention any other meals, so it's hard to tell about that. I'm assuming you may also be on some meds? They can also play a big part in weight gain, depending on what they are. It sounds like, from reading what you said, that this weight gain has come on recently? This is all just a guess, but lack of movement, age, eating the sugar and flour you ARE eating and in larger quantities and possible meds are all going to all work together, against you. Just some thoughts on this... Kiki
Guest guest
Willy, I read a study on the weights of (serious) bikers -- as they approached middle age they tended to put on weight (belly region) -- this article then went on to describe how weight/ resistance training could help with this " inevitable " weight gain. I think that I forwarded the link for this article to this board???? Anyway, that's why I'm adding weight and resistance exercises to my morning regime. Don't know if it'll work or not, but I'm hoping..... Bonnie Don't believe in " Diet " Hi, you guys! I've been reading thru the " Naturally Thin " thread, and I felt I needed to " weigh in " on this. I'm only 40 yet it's only recently that I noticed I've gained weight. Used to wear jeans that had 30 in. waist, but now I think it's up to 32, and the medium shirts fit a little tighter now. For a long time I weighed 130 and was very active when I lived downtown. Now I live farther out and hafta ride the bus or bike quite a ways to get somewhere, and I'm now 145. I'm not eating more than I used to, maybe better. No more powdered milk or sugar 'cause I don't eat breakfast. I still am a big eater, have two sandwiches not one, eat meals out of the pan to save dishes, and I don't cook anything I can't boil. Don't trust myself with anything big like chickens, roasts, or fish due to my nerve disorder, I burn easily. Riding the bike is my only exercise. As I've said before, I haven't done any since high school. The pushups and situps I did every day felt like torture, and I never could keep my tummy in. I have scoliosis, so my body looks funny anyway. Would be nice if I could workout with someone, I'd be more apted to to it. Don't have any money, either. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've never been on a diet, and with luck I never will. I only eat when hungry, which is not very often. Once in daytime, and once at night. I know when I'm full, if I have to crap or pass gas, I've had enough! I try to get out on the bike at least everyday, whether to the bar, seeing friends, or shopping. Sometimes I do it to relieve cabin fever! I hope to get the hang of this Lifelift thing, my sinus problems get in the way of doing it right, I need something to make me feel alive, since I have no girlfriend. Thanx for letting me vent. Guest guest
Hi Willy, You have us as friends! Just pretend we are with you while you exercise. You are very lucky you don't have to " diet " . Being less active will certainly make you gain weight. Do you have the reflexology tape? That would probably make you feel better, it always does me.! Guest guest
Hi, Kiki! I just got some clothes from a friend of mine, and included in the rather large bag was a couple pairs of jeans. One was a Levis 505 with a 34 waist that fit in the butt and thighs, and a Levis 501 w/32 waist that were too tight there. The last couple of months I've had injuries to my knee and big toe, for which I was taking meds, but only for pain and swelling. The two sandwiches thing goes back to when I was a kid, guess I've always had a big appetite. I have bologna & cheese on whole wheat, don't like white bread. I eat rice too, but have recently switched to brown rice, use it with tuna and peas, and sometimes beans and weenies. Don't bake anything, so I don't use flour or sugar. I still drink approx. a liter of Coke a day, and about a pitcher of beer three or four times a week. My mom always was concerned if I was eating ok, I guess I am! Every couple years, I gotta go get a physical for SSI, so far, so good! I could stand to get out and get a little more active, maybe take some walks instead of biking. I would like to try LifeLift, sounds like it works, just have some sinus problems I'm been dealing with for years. Well, gotta go. My mac'n'cheese is ready! Guest guest
Hi Willy, Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, but my computer has had some 'issues' today. First of all, I'm NOT trying to tell you how to eat. That's a personal choice for everyone. I'm just trying to point you in a direction to help you see that even tho you don't bake or cook, so you think you don't use sugar and flour, you do! The Coke is FULL of sugar. The bread is too. Beans, weenies and rice are very high in carbs. Peas are another HIGH carb item. Bologna...well, processed meats are full of sugar as well as other things that are harmful to us. As for your mac and cheese, well, do I even need to say it? Sugar and flour. Then there's the beer...again HIGH in carbs. Even the so called low carb beer, has way more in then they lead you to believe. With no real movement on your part, these, IMO only, are what are doing you in. Check your labels, I'm betting you'll be shocked at what you read. Of course there are other things added to these foods that will give you some real troubles too, nitrates and trans fats as an example. Now for the meds. I have no idea what you're on, but again I will say, and it's proven, that certain ones WILL cause you to gain weight. Either by giving you a bigger appetite or just playing with your body. As an example a lot of depression meds, cause a huge appetite increase. Vioxx will add pounds, even if your sticking to your eating plan, if you have one, to the letter. I have a friend who gained 10 pounds in one month on it. She lost it, in a month or less, just by going off. Do a search on your meds, see if you can track something down that way. You're the only one who can decide how you want to take care of yourself. You're the only one who will know what is and isn't working for you. Altho, from what I've read, what you're doing ISN'T working for you. We are all here for you to give you support and advise {OK, our opinions...LOL} on what may help you. I'm having a brain fart right now, but I think it's Jenni who has a really super knowledge of working with weights. Liz is kickin' it on her breathing. There really are so many options for you as far as getting some sort of workout/movement in your life. LL is a GREAT place to start, then as you're able you can add some walking. Just move!!! A plan of eating and movement, they go hand in hand. You pretty much need to do both in order to achieve what you want. Hope I didn't sound like I was scolding or lecturing. That was NOT my intent at all. I want to encourage you in your new journey and help you in any way I can. WE ALL DO!!!! Blessings, Kiki
