Guest guest
Hi , I was asked to go to a board meeting in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago (OK summoned ) and we have some more breakthroughs. There is a document that is now in the hands of the educational standards committee and a number of the college council have made positive comments on the DipROM. The next three steps are: prove that the course is at least cost neutral to College, academic standards are validated and possibly we pilot two or three modules. A full business plan has been written, we have various fellows who are assigned to assessing content and modular content is being developed. The course is 1200 hours of postgraduate level material broken down into 12 modules of 100 hours each, all via the internet. Each 100 hour module is further broken down into 4x20hr CPD units and 1x20hr assessment/confirmation unit. You can do CPD isolation or as part of the DipROM. You will need to complete 10 compulsory and 2 optional modules to be awarded Part A of the DipROM, 6 modules to get CertROM. If you want to be awarded the DipROM you will need to attend in Edinburgh for a five day residential, Part B. This will be 4 days of tuition and exams (including a 3 person panel beating over your research paper) and day 5 will be the award of the diploma and invitation to a formal dinner (for a nominal fee). Part A will be delivered by direct internet access or downloadable PDFs etc for those with iffy access. A great difficulty of this whole project has been the shades of grey. Ian and I first mooted this thing back in Oct 2002 and have been chiselling away at it since. Until we go live, it is hard to see the progress of the thing. At present my estimate is that we are about 90% of the way to a go decision and then it is down to getting the content commissioned and the individual units running. The course delivery systems are in place as well as the admin back up and college support. Of course, much of this is down to folks like yourself who have helped out in support of the course. For those of you who don't know, is starring in the first episode of a documentary for which Remote Medics Ltd have been retained as technical advisors. The production company are providing funds to the DipROM directly and it's through this type of generosity we are able to progress the cause. Big thanks mate, really appreciated. Guest guest
Dear Ross, Nice to see that the DipRom is still on track and progress is still being made towards the final goal. Just as a matter of interest and in relation to your scenario, would it be viable to include a section in the moduals to include emergency (HLS) Helicopter landing sites and preparation for emergency air evacuation. The reason I ask is that I may be able to assist in this area by going back over my old notes and putting together a teaching package for you. I may have to research the details of preparing a sight for fix wing evacuation in remote areas but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I would also recommend that a section be put together on Hospital assessment as often in these remote locations the local hospitals are not fit for the treatment of locals never mind ex pats either clincally or logistically. I had the oppertunity to assess some hospitals in Georgia and to be honest the clinic that we had put together was far superior to the local facilities and our nearest hopital of any use was 12hrs by road away. Best Regards Ian. > Hi , > > I was asked to go to a board meeting in Edinburgh > a couple of weeks ago (OK summoned ) and we > have some more breakthroughs. Guest guest
Ian, Some good points. I hope that these would be covered somewhere in the current structure but will drop a note to the module owners later to see if they can include these.
