Scenario: Taxi !!! Part Four

Update:

Medical team have arrived on scene and can take

your two patients back to the site clinic for

medivac or the two bodies.

News from base is that they have got radio contact

with the source of the beacon and its the three

passengers that bailed from the taxi. One of the

passengers is a member of the security team and

always leaves his sidearm and kit at the airstrip

so that he is ready as soon as he hits the ground.

Another vehicle was about at the time of the

incident, but this was not involved in the attack.

The two people from the truck were fired on in

defence. The passengers in the taxi were helped

out by the driver of the first car. They are

indeed about three miles offroad and the car has

broken down.

Situation is: (obs, second hand by radio from the

security team member, no medic on scene)

Driver: OK, a bit excited, but seems OK

Malcolm: Shot, leaking leg and lower back, not

talking now, but seems to be breathing, not sure

Baz: Leaking from face, nose looks stuffed and

nasty gash on forehead, keeps nodding off

Me: Feel fine, but caught in side and chest. Got

vest but think a couple of ribs have bust,

breathing is painful.

Helicopter is 30mins away from either you or the

abandoned car and security team are less than five

mins from you.

Basic maths are that one of the pickup truck team

is dead and there could be one loose and still

armed. You have 2 bodies, 2 casualties and a

further 4 possibles at another site. At present

you have space for two in each medical vehicle,

one stretchered and one sitting plus a passenger

in your own vehicle. Heli can take two stretchered

and two seated passengers.

Find out if they have a medical/First-Aid kit first, then instruct the guy on

the radio to check for a carotid pulse. If he's not sure if the guy is

breathing; Check for breathing, Instruct the Driver to expose his back and chest

and check for entry and exit wounds (holes and places of the holes to those

guys). What position is he in? Can he be moved to a better position to ease

breathing, get them to describe how he is sitting/lying etc. Try to get them to

control the bleeding. Use then as hands, ears and eyes to get a picture of the

situation. Same goes for the next guy.

Baz: Leaking from face, nose looks stuffed and

nasty gash on forehead, keeps nodding off.

What's leaking from his nose and is he leaking from the ears? Is it clear

(rarely is), or thin and streaked w/blood? Or is it frank blood. Is there bone

exposed in the head gash, did he get a cut or is it a gsw? is there MORE than

bone exposed? Get the face and head bleed controlled as well as possible. Sounds

like a concussion? or ? other neuro deficit secondary to head inj.

Does he have any bruising on the face, neck or deformities of same? (other than

the nose).

Consider he may have a pneumo.

Send the helo to the guys on the radio and get them out of harms way, if

possible, they are in rough shape. Send the 1-serious and 1-not-so from current

position to the base in the 4wd ambulance for further evac by helo, radio ahead

to get the ball rolling. Relay to the security team to drop by to pick me up and

we're going to the 3 injured (get location from the helo) with gear to help set

them up for evac. The helo will take me (medic), Mr. security, Baz and Malcolm

from disabled car site. The driver can ride back w/ security team. The medical

team will be taking the pts. at our current location to the base for transfer to

definitive care, if he survives the ride. Any extra vehicles can transport dead

guys.
