According to the Kazakh Ministry of Health website, the FRED is licensed in KZ as of the 12th of July. License number RK- MT. -5¹01959. I like the FRED. You can get it a manual option as well as 12 lead module and SPO2. It's small, handy, and the one I played with seemed fairly medic-proof. Other options are the Responder 3000 and Heartstream FR2. But if you want the retro look, check out these Russian babies. Guest guest Posted September 13, 2004 Report Share Posted September 13, 2004 Hi everyone, I'm a new contributor who still works for the NHS, and also dabbles in remote medical work (By my standards, not as remote as most of you!!!) Just a warning about the FRED, these were used frontline by my NHS service but were replaced and put into reserve stock due to repeated failure to turn on at critical moments. Although the units worked fine the problem appeared to be the battery which easily fell partway out thus disconnecting it, a metal catch was then used to try and hold it in but with limited success. So if you have one and you run to an incident and it won't turn on then take it out of it's case and whack the battery back in!!! Otherwise worked OK, one of only AED size units that can be ordered with all extras.Hope this is of some use?? . JAMIE TODD. http://www.extrememedical.co.uk jamie@... The write up on FREDs sounds wonderful but as pointed out Staffs crews were having several unit failures on CAs and was finally removed off front line work when it happened to Van Dellen. One of staffs guys even demonstrated the failure at ambex much to the despise of the FRED reps! The tiny little charging socket is also prone to faults, the charging connection is pants, try plugging your unit in and once you've got the green light, switch the power off at the mains socket. You'll find you still have a green charging light. Gives false indications that the unit is charging! best place for FREDs is in the bin, in my opinion! Your point is well taken- a lot of the equipment we see might be good for one environment and lousy for another. Unfortunatly, Ian doesn't have much choice due to the regulations here in Kazakhstan.
