Guest guest
According to the MRI I had in November 2005. I had grade 3 . I have gotten worse since then but not sure if I am grade 4 now or not. I do have constant swelling on my right knee. My left knee seems to be fine. _____ From: chondromalacia treatment [mailto:chondromalacia treatment ] On Behalf Of lin Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 2:28 AM chondromalacia treatment Subject: What Stage/Grade of Chondromalacia are you? I read and have heard from some websites and from my physiotherapist about the different stages of Chondromalacia.-.. From one website: - Stages: - I: swelling and softening of the cartilage; - II: fissuring w/in the softened areas - III: fasciclations of articular cartilage almost to level of subchondral bone; - IV: destruction of cartilage w/ subchondral bone exposed; - histologically, stage IV is virtually indistinguishable from DJD; - there is no unequivical progression from stage I to IV; Another site: Grade Description I Softening and swelling II Fissuring III Fibrillation ( " crab meat " appearance) IV Erosive changes and exposure of the subchondral bone Anyways... I think I am (according to my physiotherapist) most likely a grade III or IV. She says that I don't have a lot of swelling in my knee cap because it's bone again bone, like two pieces of old pavement rubbing together constantly. What grades are everyone else, either by being told or by guessing? -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. I read and was told they can't determine the grade or the extent of chondromalacia on MRI's... I had two and they said " they didn't help much " .... Guest guest
I was operated on and diagnosed with Grade 3 to 4. 6 months later I asked if we could do an MRI to determine and more damage and the Doc said the the MRI would be inconclusive. Guest guest
I am not sure this is just what the results that I got back from the 2nd MRI the first one that I had back 2003 only said I had mild chondromalacia. The 2nd MRI was done at the dr’s office I was being seen at so not sure if that made a difference or not. I am trying to find someone else cause I was not impressed with the last dr I was with he seen me twice and then sent me to pt and told me I didn’t need to follow up with him after the pt was done. (the 2 times was the first time I went to get dx and he told me he thought I had a torn minisc and my symptom was not chondromalacia like I thought it was, then the 2nd time was to tell me about the mri results and then sent me to pt) I would rather have a relationship with my dr more than just send me to pt (yes I know that is the common treatment but at least have a follow up). _____ From: chondromalacia treatment [mailto:chondromalacia treatment ] On Behalf Of lin Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 3:32 PM chondromalacia treatment Subject: Re: What Stage/Grade of Chondromalacia are you? > > According to the MRI I had in November 2005. Guest guest
I think they can only really tell by going in there & poking. I just had a partial meniscectomy on my left knee (last Fri) & the doc made a narrated videotape. Very cool. He discovered a " grade I " spot. He poked on it w/his probe & it was a little soft. That was my good knee. Ann Re: What Stage/Grade of Chondromalacia are you? > > According to the MRI I had in November 2005. I had grade 3 .
