Guest guest Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 I am also on Celebrex....mainly for my right shoulder that I inflammed from a few years of using my arms to rise out of a chair because of knee problems. A bit of advice......I would see the second OS for personal education. You don't have to have surgery now, but you could be prepared for the future. Don't be like me. I kept stalling to see a doctor for several years until I was bedridden, then I found myself up against a wall with no reasonable options. Guest guest Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Oh by the way, the first doctor I saw recommended a Fulkersons. After seeing a half dozen other doctors and having four arthroscopic surgeries I still haven't had a Fulkersons and " hopefully " won't have to. Scary thing is, I was desperate enough to get one right away, but both knees were extraordinarily painful, and I couldn't imagine recovering from two Fulkersons, especially if there was no assurance they would help. I am wondering if after 5 months and 1 week, if I am just not recovered from the Lateral Release? Don in Houston Hi Don I've had CP for around 3 yrs now, and it definately works in cycles for me. I used to think that good spells meant that I was recovering, but then out of nowhere it would get bad again. Although I'm loathe to admit it, I would have to say that generally, the bad spells are getting slightly worse each time. Though I'm not going to rule out that this could just be a psychological interpretation. ie. my psychological response to the pain makes me think its getting worse....if you know what I mean! Its probably a bit of both. Quote

Guest guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 That's a tough break. I use a thermal sleeve and Biofreeze (or another topical cream like bengay) at night. While I sit on the couch, I start with ice then switch to heat for about an hour befre I go to bed. The only time I had SEVERE pain at night, was for a couple of weeks after my surgery. I hope it has gotten better in the last couple of days. Don On 3/25/06, georgi012001 <georgi012001@...> wrote: > > Hi this is Georgi.... Guest guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Hi Georgi- I'm sorry about your trouble! My lifesaver has been a Don Joy " arctic flow " device. I don't know how much they cost (mine were provided to me after I had both of my knees done several months ago) but it's great. Regarding your meds (I'm a nurse), most pain meds can be crushed with a pill crusher (or even the back of a spoon) and put in yogurt or apple sauce and swallowed that way. Good luck!! le Re: Unexplainable? chondromalacia treatment > That's a tough break. I use a thermal sleeve and Biofreeze (or > anothertopical cream like bengay) at night. Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Thanks, I can't take my knee meds because they are anti inflams and I was told could cause severe bleeding in case of my tonsils. Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 A friend of mine had been taking Celebrex for her arthritis and saw an ad for Zyflamend, which is herbal arthritis medications and it helped her as much as the Celebrex did, it costs less. You might want to check into that or something similar. Joya Thanks, I can't take my knee meds because they are anti inflams and I was told could cause severe bleeding in case of my tonsils. Quote
Guest guest Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Hi Georgi- Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back to you! It's true that most NSAIDs do increase your chance of bleeding, especially post operatively. However, drugs that are -2 inhibitors (such as celebrex) are much better and don't carry such a risk for bleeding (although there still is some). I personally don't find celebrex very helpful; I take Lodine when needed. I hope you feel better soon! Re: Unexplainable? Guest guest Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Well. This is interesting. If part of the retinaculum is too tight, it would twist the kneecap. Twisting it back as a regular exercise could solve the problem. I hadn't thought of this before. Of course, you'd want about 4 opinions on whether your kneecap was twisted and/or in what direction before you untwisted it. Ann Unexplainable? At my visit to the OS on Monday, he did some pretty hard twisting on my Patella. After the visit I made myself ride a stationary bike on a high resistance level even though it hurt. The next morning, I did the exercise where you try and bend your leg backwards. I did it so hard that I would lift my entire weight off the ground. I have been twising the patella myself while I try to squat to see if it is less painful if I push it to the right or left. (Result is not conclusive) Now, I am having less pain. I even jogged to the coffee machine this AM.(About 30 feet) I still cannot go up or down the stairs very gracefully and I having fits with my hip after I walk 1/4 mile or so. So, I know my gait is not right. I relly don't know what made it better? Could be the OS scared me with the Fulkerson talk? I still have a visit with a second OS on Monday. Do you you guys go through cycles of more then less pain? I am wondering if after 5 months and 1 week, if I am just not recovered from the Lateral Release? Don in Houston Quote
