Guest guest
Hi Jen, I have had this happen to me too. It could possible be the aloe. It could also be the oils and butters themselves. I have seen some tins that are coated on the inside for this reason exactly. I would try those and see what happens. I can do some research and find the supplier if you need me to. I was under the impression that as long as there was no water that there would be no rusting (ie. lip balms often being sold in the tins). The only thing I can think of (unless I am totally wrong about the no water thing). Is that I am using shealoe butter & that it could be the aloe. Does anyone out there know the answer to why the rust is occurring? Any ideas, suggestions, etc. are all greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Jen E. from Maine From what I have heard (I do not use tins) you should buy tins that are lined - with what I do not know. I have seen these tins... even gotten samples and you can not see the coating, but it is there. Without it I think you are going to get rusting. Guest guest
That would be great if you could. I am kind of frustrated since I bought 144 of these tins; any suggestions on what to use them for (they are 2 oz.)? I am thinking of trying my muscle rub (similar to Tiget Balm) & see if that will work. What I do not get is I have made lip balm with no rusting with the same tins, just smaller. Perplexing to say the least... The lined ones do sound like a good idea & I have not come across any that say they are lined yet. Guest guest
Possibility: if your oils were warm to hot when you poured into the tins and you IMMEDIATELY put the lids on, condensation will form inside. Thus, the rust. Leave caps off til items are absolutely cold.
