I think the best bet is to find a good orthopedic specialist, sit down and

talk. Have faith in him (or her) and do exactly as they say. If you get to

a point where you no longer have faith in them, find someone else. There is

no one, or excellent solution for everyone in every case.

Hi:

My general recommendation is to find a " whole body " type doctor.

They tend to be better (IMHO) at figuring out these problems than

orthopedic surgeons.

This is the doc who fixed me up. He's in Danbury, CT and is an

amazing person & a fantastic doctor:

http://www.imaginelifewithoutpain.com

There is also a doc in New York City that I've sent a few of my

friends to (for their backs, not their knees) and they are both 99%

better and think he is great:

http://www.bonesdoctor.com

If neither of these are convenient, try to find a doc from this site:

http://www.aaomed.org

I had been to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and the

guy there (an orthopedic surgeon, hip & knee specialist) was a

complete waste of time. He spent 10 mins. with me and basically

told me he couldn't help and that I should just quit doing anything

that made my knee hurt. Thanks alot doc...

Anyway, hope that helps. Feel free to keep posting and asking

questions, or you can E-mail me directly with any questions about

these docs or anything else.

Good luck,

Doug

Depends on your health plan but either Boston or New York have

excellent orthopedic doctors. Go to the knee guru website and look for

best knee doctors in the US and then by state... or do a google search

for orthopedic doctors.

You need to start a treatment and the you'll get better.

best luck,

I also got my knee injuries on the job -- they had me crawling under desks to

read computer serial numbers. I told them that I already had knee pain and this

was making it worse, and anyway I was nearly 60 and shouldn't have job duties

like that, but they ignored me.

Before you consider having your kneecaps removed (you really need them for

leverage, but I do understand your frustration -- I threatened to cut my leg off

below the knee if my doctor didn't help me), consider a TKR. Even if you're

young, firstly they have a new material now, zirconium, that lasts 80% longer,

and secondly, by the time your second TKR had to be replaced, they would

probably have come up with something better. And if not, then (I'm not being

flip -- if it's the only option, it's the only option) -- you COULD have your

lower leg removed. People hike, run, and play football with lower leg

prostheses. There's no reason for the medical community to consign us to

wheelchairs just because they can't fix CP (before I switched medical centers,

it became clear that the docs at the old one were quite satisfied with the idea

of my having to use a wheelchair to get around).

The FDA sometimes lets Europeans use a technique for 20 years before they

approve it for here. You could look into that if you can afford to pay for it.

There ARE answers out there. It's ridiculous for otherwise healthy people to be

crippled by a worn spot on their patella.
