Newly Diagnosed- Now What? Arthroscopic

Surgery?

I have heard from enough people than this can indeed work. You need PT

specifically targeted towards CP however, or you will just make it worse.

Here is the best I have found;

I was very skeptical about surgery since I had heard these same figures. I

had arthroscopic synvectomy and lateral release 6 days ago on my right knee.

Within 3 days my operated knee felt better than the unoperated one. I am

going to try and get the other knee operated on either next week or the week

after.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm not sure what the lateral

release is. I don't know anything about the surgery yet. Right now

I'm just trying out the meds and therapy. But I don't want to take

pills forever, especially if there's a way to actually solve the

problem itself... I only have a 30-day perscription anyway. I'll try

that knee brace, too, though there were several to chose from. I

didn't know there were different types of arthoscopic surgery. Is it

bundled with the lateral release?

They cut the ligaments (?) on the outside of your kneecap to try and release

the pressure in the joint. Also, it can correct maltracking, but everyone

is different and needs to be treated as such. Also, the lateral release can

help by the fact that so many nerves are cut and deadened, but that can also

work against you, and possibly cause more pain in the long run instead of

less.

I don't know anything about the surgery yet. Right now

Yes.

I had a LR in '95 bec. of ITBS. It worked. No nerves were deadened as far as I

know. I did begin to have ITBS again in 1999 due to a change in my job duties.

Also, somewhere in the meantime I got a lot of meniscal damage even though I

wasn't doing anything that would cause it (except for my job duties).

I do still have numbness in the skin on the lateral side of my knee from my

3-mo-ago scope. Would that the numbness WERE in my kneecap and femur!
