Guest guest
Totally applaude the furthering of anything that might give a voice to the varied world of " medics " and give a basis for all experience to be recognised, hopefully BAEMT will expand to allow other variations to be recognised, perhaps even develope educational resources aimed specifically at medics as some of the Unions have. Hope for the future. Carpenter Does anyone in Birmingham know where I could get some experience of the same type of vehicle used by West Mids Amb Service, I had ten minutes before a recent driving test and it was not enough to get used to the vehicle, any suggestions? Guest guest
It will always be difficult to get civilian accreditation when trying to 'cross deck' experience and turn them into quals. Would it not be easier to achieve a grading system with 'off the shelf' life support courses, and couple that with experience that has to be logged in an employment log? I imagine policing something like this would be a full time job, however. Perhaps it is time to forget trying to get the IHCD reg. and develop something pertinent to our field; after all we have to complete the STORM cse or equiv. to work in the N sea, IHCD does not cut anything special there? Is there any truth in a rumour that the BAEMT is in trouble again? Ian H
Guest guest
Agreed Ross, If the members agree, I could contact Mark and ask if he would accept a volunteer to speak for the Remote Sector? Obvioulsy this would need the backing of the membership. Comments Guys? Guest guest
All, I am quite happy to further the cause with BAEMT, as the listowner of RSM online I am quite happy to voice your concerns or thoughts with Mark. If it is going to work however, I do need you to mail Mark at BAEMT (indivdiually)and suggest it. If any one has any major objections obviously I wouldn't undertake the role of spokesperson...... Guest guest
Hi Ian, I hope Cyprus is treating you well and that your liver isn't completely pickled....!! Once again I would have to question why we need to further the cause with BAEMT? Their voice is hardly heard in the UK never mind the areas where remote medics work and all we are going to do is end up paying subscription fees in exchange for a column in the newsletter.... What is our problem? OK, the CPSM Paramedic board gave people a hard time but so what? Our Offshore Medic Certificate is now, unintentionally, internationally recognised. We are well trained, well paid and enjoy equal time on/off etc etc... The Health and Safety Commission are the people that matter - don't forget it wasn't that long ago that certain people were voicing their opinions to them that ex military medics should not be allowed to do the Offshore Medic course.......Thankfully that didn't happen but remember that it is they who control who trains us and who certificates us. Regular meetings were hosted by the offshore division in Aberdeen prior to the ACOP being revamped - my opinion is that is where our voice needs to be heard. Was anyone on the list present at any of those meetings? If so I would be very interested to hear their opinion. Sorry if I stir up a hornets nest here but these are my honest feelings lads/lasses, Cheers, Bill Bill Frew International SOS Paramedic AGIP KCO Bautino Clinic Republic of Kazakhstan Re: British Association of Emergency Medical Technicians All, I am quite happy to further the cause with BAEMT, as the listowner of RSM online I am quite happy to voice your concerns or thoughts with Mark. Guest guest
I feel that it should be looked into and I'm on side with Ian Shape on this (even if he is a big soft southerner). Guest guest
Bill et al, Your comments re BAEMT are noted, but the fact remains some of the list members are also members of BAEMT, and the object of the excersise was to ask if those members wanted some representation with BAEMT. We are all aware that we don't have an official voice, and to some degree I understand why people have had problems with BAEMT and CPSM, but many offshore guys are BAEMT members (myself included) and I do manage to keep my REMT-P (Just) each year. I thought it was a good idea because I know Mark Borrington of old and he is far more forward thinking than his predecessor Mr Ekberg. I though it would be a good opportunity to promote the fact that we exist rather than looking for any formal recognition. Again if the majority of the membership disagee then we will drop the idea...... For or against guys, your choice...... Guest guest
Hi Ian and al, if there is an association which is at least willing to listen regarding recognition then it should be followed through. There may be little or no benifit initially but those may come later, it may expidite accss to courses, proffesional literature and would hopefully provide yet another forum for work related matters.
