That's a great description ! mmmmmm Gummy Bears !! I haven't had one in so

many years ! lol If I add more milk than usual.. do you think they will grow

faster.. or will I have to keep putting the same largeer amount and wait for the

gradual changes (days/weeks)...?

don't worry, they'll grow faster than you will need them to (unless you'll get addicted to eating our gummy bears I guess ;o) ) they at least double weekly if used daily (and then of course you could separate them and start more batches if neededSubject: Re: KefirTo: RawDairy Date: Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 3:11 PM

Thank you !! I tried using lemon juice to soak my oats.. and I did not like the

taste of my oatmeal at all !!.. When I soaked it with Kefir.. it tasted so much

better... lemon juice can be a bit overpowering... Great for iced tea..

lemonade... meat.. but not for my hot cereal.

Did you try overnight to whenever fermenting the oatmeal plus whatever

dried fruits, nuts, seeds, etc. you care to add with kefir? Yum .. and

it keeps and keeps and keeps digesting the sugars, etc., making

everything tender etc. easy for dentures, etc. Add honey or Stevia to

serve & you've got a wonderful diabetic or celiac suitable dish I

understand. The stevia sweetens to taste w/out cals. It is yummy. I

use the whole raw oatmeal, no cooking .. just soak with cloth or coffee

filter over your bowl or container ... can do a " batch " for a family

that will last for days.

That sounds delicious !!!! I've never tried oatmeal with fruits/nuts. I have no

clue why.. except to say that growing up.. I've always been given oatmeal made

with milk/butter/sugar/cinnamon/vanila extract/pinch of salt. I'm curious

about raw oatmeal.. I did see some youtube videos on it... Oh.. !! I saw a

video on raw corn chowder !

If you need lime (not the fruit)to ferment the cornmeal... then I wonder if raw

corn chowder is healthy for digesting as is... It did look good though..

I wouldn't eat raw oatmeal. cooking it makes it more digestible. if you want to

eat raw corn, I would ferment it like the corn relish recipe in Nourishing

Traditions.

Ohh so I would ferment the corn and then maybe grind it in a blender, and add

the seasonings I want....? That doesn't seem as complicated as I thought it

could be... :)

I know you mentioned that you wouldn't eat raw oatmeal. I'm confused because I

thought soaking it overnight (rolled oats) would make it digestible...?

soaking the oatmeal overnight helps to neutralize phytic acid (which blocks

mineral absorption). thus, the soaking improves the nutritional benefits of the

oatmeal. see p. 452 of NT. cooking it makes it more digestible.

Deb--- do you mind sharing the store/link to where you purchased them? Thanks!

Organic grass fed raw milk kefir grains. They came very fast - I received them

on Saturday. I made a batch immediately, and gave them 30 hours. Made another

batch, and just drained that one. Now I have another batch fermenting.

some in my smoothie. It was not bad! I don't really know what normal would be,

as I always bought flavored in the store (favorite was peach).

Wonderful! At 30 hour incubation, kefir should taste like a mildly tart plain

yogurt that is slightly watered down. The longer you culture, the more tart it

becomes. Enjoy!!! Next step...kefir cheese! lol

FWIW, I find that different grains have different tastes, too. I had some grains

from a friend which I used for a year or so that were very...earthy and tart.

The only way I could drink it was in a very highly flavored smoothie. The ones I

grow now are SO very mild...almost like a milk buttermilk. Deelightful!

So if you find that you can't adjust to the taste of what you have, you could

always try another source.

It was puredynamics - it looks like he's out of it for the moment. I have had some email contact, and he got right back to me with a question I had. I can ask when he'll have more ...
