Aliza,

You're fine. It sounds like you're following the program perfectly and

haven't done a single thing wrong. Like Stasia said, there's always

going to be lactose (natural dairy sugar) in yogurt. You're not

looking for sugar free, you're looking for " no sugar added. " As long

as your containers have 10-20g of sugar and not 50-70g (and chocolate

chips and colored sprinkles LOL) you're doing great.

Same thing with the Myoplex. Remember that " equal carbs and protein "

is a rough guideline not a law. If you eat a variety of foods,

sometimes you're going to come up with 35g of carbs and 24g of protein

(that's your Myo Lite with fruit), or 18g of carbs and 35g of protein

(small sweet potato, 4 oz chicken breast). Even though they're not

mathematically equal in protein and carbs, those are both perfect BFL

meals that come in around 240-250 calories. Keep putting the half a

banana and handful of strawberries in your Myoplex. I did that same

combo every day my entire first challenge and had great results.

Don't be hard on yourself. The negative thinking, criticism, and doubt

will hurt your results *much* more than half a banana in your Myoplex

Lite. :-)

Oh hon, relax!!! You are doing just fine. This program is not about

being PERFECT and eating EXACTLY this or EXACTLY that. You're never

ever ever, no matter who you are or how long you've been doing this

going to get those carb, protein ratios completely equal. So what if

you go over a little on the carbs with the shake? Maybe at lunch you

go a little over on the protein. And at the end of the week if your

carbs are a little higher that's okay? You've worked out hard, you've

eaten clean, you've put forth a great effort and are doing great

things for your body. You only know this because you're actually

COUNTING those numbers. Throw them down. Use palm/fist. Use the

recipes from the book with confidence. Don't let NUMBERS get you all

worked up in a tizzy. They are just NUMBERS for heaven's sake. You've

just got that natural zigzag going girl.

Keep going, stay strong. You can do this.

Hi ,

Thank you so much for your response. I guess it has something to do with

the fact that I've been struggling with my weight forever, and have always been

on diets --- and so many, at that --- I guess I've become a little

meticulous with things, and I get worried very easily. You know the plan to

actual

worksheet things he gives on the website? I print those out, and on the

bottom, where it says " notes, " I write down every teeny tiny thing that I think

I

might have done wrong, you know? (That little note section is filled from top

to bottom with tiny handwriting every day.) Maybe your right --- I could be

looking at the work I've been putting into this in a negative way. Or maybe

its just constructive criticism and I'm trying to make myself better. I'm not

sure. Either way, your post helped a lot by allowing me to calm down, and I

thank you so, so much.

I am not a dr of course, but I think your instinct tells you a lot. You know

your child better than anyone and if something didn't seem right to me, I

wouldn't hesitate to get a second opinion. Did the ped give you a referral for

pt? I don't want to scare you of course, I am just saying what I would do.

This question isn't about scoliosis but I was hoping that someone out

there might have an answer for me. This is regarding my 11 week old

son Noah. At his one month check up the doctor noticed that Noah's

head was always tilted to his left. I had been noticing this as well

and had planned on asking about it. She said that it was probably a

short muscle or weak muscle on his left side to to gently tip his

head the opposite way to help stretch out the muscle. I had told her

that I heard many of you moms out there talking about a condition

that began with a " T " (not being a really medical person, the word

Torticollis slipped my mind). She told me she didn't know of a

condition that began with a " T " . So I started doing the excercises

with him and bought an insert for his carseat to help keep his head

straighter and it seemed to be working but today his head seems to be

tilting to the left again. Could this be Torticollis and if so is it

something we should be seeing a specialist for? My next question,

the shape of Noah's spine seems reversed to me...instead of bowing

out on the top and then in on the botton, his is the opposite. It

bows out on the bottom and sinks in at the top, to the point that I

can't feel his spine between his muscles. I asked his doctor about

this and she said it was probably weak muscles that would resolve.

Has anyone heard of this? I'm having a hard time with this " weak

muscle " answer on both topics because at a day old Noah could lift

and hold his head up while on his belly...at almost 2 weeks he was

very good at holding his own head up and at 5 weeks, he could roll

over from his belly to his back and yesterday rolled from his back to

his belly. Sorry about the long post but I'm so nuerotic now because

of Abby's Scoliosis, I just don't want to miss anything with Noah if

he should be receiving some kind of treatment. Any information any

of you could share would be great!

Thank you so much!

Deshea,

If I remember right, I believe you live in Mass don't you? I live in

Revere, just north of Boston. I would be interested if you have the

information

handy. Especially now with Noah so little and Abby at a little over two,

leaving the house is a rarity!! Abby has PT at Children's in Boston, but it's

only when we go for her checkups so it's only once every couple of months.

Thank you,

I agree - motherly instincts are often correct. It's definitely

worth a second opinion. My son (also named Noah) was diagonised

with Torticollis at his 2 week checkup. He want to PT from then

until he was 10 mo. old. He also had to wear a helmet due to

plagiocephaly. Not to scare you, but Torticollis not only effects

the neck/head but other aspects of the body as well. Kids tend to

favor one side over the other which can cause delays with

crawling/walking etc. So it's definitely something that should be

ruled out sooner than later.

I also agree. 2nd & 3rd opinions cant hurt....Especially, if you feel that

there is something going on and no one seems to have an answer...

F.Y.I., there is an article on plagiocephaly in the FILES section of this group.

Does anyone out there have access to an informative Torticollis article, or 2?

If so, perhaps we can put it up in the FILES section, as well...

just jumping in on this thread to add -- if you have a child under 3 years old

who has scoliosis, you are also allowed to go through the early intervention

program. my son lucas was diagnosed at 18 mos with infantile scoliosis. from 2

- 3 yrs old, he had pt at home (very, very convenient) to help although he had

no gross or fine motor skill delays. instead they worked on strengthening the

convex side of his back and stretching the concave side. if you have any

trouble finding ei in your state, i will be happy to look up the contact

information for you.

Headaches are a classical side effect of Hydralizine. Most easily treated with BB but may interfere with renin and aldo studies. We used to go up to 400 mg a day of Hydra but always with BB because of headache and increase pulse rate.I would be happy with your BPs where they are now.Question is can you stand Sx till saline? When is it scheduled? I would do saline ASAP and then consider AVS if saline is abnormal. Our protocol has been to stop all drugs for 2 weeks before saline. Never (in 30 years) had a problem doing that. No info on how a PET scan can localize aldo secretion.Send reference. On Jul 27, 2009, at 11:11 AM, Bindner wrote: I am currently taking hydralazine, verapamil and terasozin to prep for new round of 24 hour urine and salt suppression and an eventual AVS. Also, I am reading that a PET scan can replace an AVS. Is there anyone in the US who does that? Can the PET be done without changing meds, or am I currently doomed to suffering through headaches and tachacardia no matter what happens? I am on 50mg hydralazine 3x a day, although BP is hovering around 140/90 in moring test before meds. Pulse goes down to 70s at this point, but it goes back up to 100 after taking hydralazine, with the accompanying headaches. Doctor is considering upping Hydralazine to 4x a day, but I am not sure this won't kill me. Would lower dose work better? Could side effects be worse? I would hate to have an MI in trying to cure PA.

Thanks. My approach would be do do AVS as soon as saline back (if abnormal). On Jul 28, 2009, at 4:09 AM, Bindner wrote: Saline is scheduled for Monday. AVS not yet scheduled. That's their plan too. It will be a 3 day stay at NIH.

The prior saline showed I was suppressing, so this should too.

Hydralazine was cut to 25mgx4

Also on Verapamil 120mgx4 and 10mg Terazosinx2.

I also took meds today after breakfast and ill effects of Hydralazine took longer to occur, although pulse is still high and I still have a headache, though a smaller one.

I'm also a little fuzzy due to higher Terazosin. (med changes always mess me up a bit). In the recovery world, they call this a freebee.

Most suppress some. It depends on what the cuf off they use as an absolute value to make the DX. When we first started we used post saline PA of >13 (if renin was low after lasix) as the cut off. This has crept down over the years. They probably need different values by ethnic group so as how many other ethnic groups they have studied.CE Grim MDAll of the meds your are on will increase heart rate and give headaches. One reason we just stop everything for 2 weeks. In our experience the BP were not much worse and the Sx were a lot better. On Jul 28, 2009, at 10:43 AM, Bindner wrote: That's their plan too. Hi all, If I want to freeze milk, I just pour some off of the top,(to expand)

put the cap back on, and freeze it? I just found a real good source for raw

milk, but it is far from my home, so I was hoping I could by alot while there.

And, (don't hate me) Has anyone ever made kefir in chocolate milk? Thanks,Lydia

Hi Lydia,

I have to travel an hour each way so I buy 8 or 9 gallons once a month and

they stay fine all that time, BUT they are in a 2nd refrigerator that

doesn’t get opened often and it is at the lowest setting. Sometimes there

are ice crystals in it. That being said, if you need to freeze be very

careful if you’re using glass.

I had a great idea to pour off the cream from about 4 gallons. So I could

make ice cream in the future, I put it in a ½ gallon mason jar with what I

thought was plenty of head room. It cracked… I DID cry over that “spilled”

milk… I tried straining it through butter muslin, but saw too many shards

and it had to go in the compost. So you CAN freeze milk but watch your head

space. I don’t think I would try glass again.

If you’re using the plastic jug it comes in, the worst that can happen is it

splits before freezing and makes a mess in your freezer – pour out more than

you think you should.

It will take a Looooong time to defrost and the “ice” will be the last to

thaw out, so take it out of the freezer about 4 days before you want to

drink it.

Chocolate Kefir sounds good! Even if it worked your grains might always be

chocolaty… maybe flavor it after it’s kefir(d)?

Best to you!

You have to be really cautious of freezing liquids in glass. The thing that

causes the glass to break is that the liquid will freeze from the outside in.

Even if you leave some headroom, it can break. What causes this is the top

freezes before the middle does. As the middle freezes, it needs room to expand

but can't expand up because the top is already frozen. It will expand in the

direction of least resistance. Many times that is outward. Then, pop, the glass

gives way.
