Guest guest
I had a TTT done on both of my legs. There are different types of catheters. The traditional cathether is a urinary one that empties your bladder. however, another type of catheter is one in your back for an epidural or in your leg for a femoral nerve block. was talking about one in her back or leg for pain control. I did not have a urinary catheter during my TTT but I did have an epidural catheter in the hospital that kept my legs numb for a while. Guest guest
Hi Ann- I think it depends on the patient as to whether you need a foley urinary catheter with an epidural. I had epidurals in the hospital after my TTT and did not need a foley. You are obviously numb from waist down with an epidural and some people can still urinate while others cannot. Hope this helps! Guest guest
So you're saying that having an epidural doesn't require your having a urinary catheter? Man, that would be a relief if I were having an epidural... Ann Re: What's all this talk about catheters? > I had a TTT done on both of my legs. Guest guest
Well, hopefully I won't be getting any epidurals anytime soon anyway. It's just that the thought of a foley makes me kinda -- well, uncomfortable. Then again, my neighbor actually walked around with one for several weeks & didn't break out into a homicidal rage. Guest guest
Hi, I don't know if you will have a catheter or not, but there was absolutely no pain involved for mine and I wouldn't have another surgery without it. I removed my catheter at home and it just slips out. It is real thin like a wire, very flexible and painless (in my opinion). The catheter was easier than being completely knocked out and I was able to get pain med pushed right into the catheter. It is a cool feeling like cool water is being flushed into your body. It was great for me!
Guest guest
When I had my surgery I didn't have a urinary catheter otherwise I would still be b*tching about it. I hate those which I had during childbirth and they hurt and burn. Those are the worse, but with my surgery because I didn't have anything to eat or drink the night before I didn't have to get the catheter and after the surgery I used a bedpan while I was in the hospital! Guest guest
You must NOT be talking about a Foley (urinary). Right? Guest guest
Whew! You weren't talking about a Foley. I can't tell you how relieved I am!! Guest guest
Thank goodness! it sounds like I won't need a urinary catheter, I didn't know the difference. I already know I'm going to be having an epidural so I asume I'll be having whatever you guys had. Of course I'm going through this extremely painful surgery and I'm worrried about a catheter! Thanks so much for the input! > Whew! You weren't talking about a Foley.
