OT - XRays and antibiotics

I love this list...love it love it. I read the journals every day and though I

have never posted, I know you regualar posters like family it seems! Anyhow, I

wish my first post was on vaccine topics, but of course small crisis gave me

some motivation to check with you here.

Can I have some opinions on accepting X-rays for injuries that have no treatment

other than antibiotics and " stay off it " ?

My 2 y/o DS had the top of the tip of his big toe (including the nail & bed) come

off when a 10 gallon tub of coconut oil slipped off a stool onto it. (sniffle)

There was lots of bleeding but there was nothing they could do for him in ER

except clean and dress it and prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Of

course they wanted to x-ray it to ensure there was no exposed fracture but

because he was so strong and we couldn't hold him down to get a good picture, I

elected to wait to x-ray it until he calmed down and we could take him to a

family podiatrist friend.

They did not like me for deciding to wait (or because in my alarmed state I

actually admitted that he is not vaccinated - I will never admit that again at

ER).

Please chime in if you have a brief moment!

1.) Would you be diligent about getting an X-Ray to detect fracture if you knew

the only treatment was stronger antibiotics for " potential infection " ? (note: he

had a sore toe the rest of the day and wouldn't walk on it, but did not cry or

complain as if it was excruciating like you would expect if it was fractured)

2.) If it was or wasn't fractured would you give antibiotics for " potential

infection " ?

3.) should I accept the tetanus shot for this injury? .....HAHAHA sorry, just a

joke - they actually tried to scare me into that one - tetanus, in my kitchen!!!

He eats a fairly traditional diet with lots of healthy fats, bone broth and

homemade yogurts, kefir and ferments... but also some processed foods.
