We just dod this two weeks ago.

It sure has helped with a jump staer but I don't know if it got everything that

one time. They used three cylinders and big fans.

Someone pitched a tent to sleep in this is to make sure nothing enters the

house.

We had to stay out about a week.

They had monitors to cleck the gas levels inside.

We have new hardwood floors that had not been cleaned due to me to scared to do

much moving around in the house.

So cleaning up the left overs is hard toknow what was killed.

We have had a multitude of insects ever since we built this house.

It cost us $7500 for a one storey no basement 2400 SF plus garage.

I am very paranoid about people tracking through here and they I don't know if

the things I see are new or just puicked up and moved around.

It am still glad we did it.

I live in TN and could only find one company that does this.

They had a team come from vA and set it up.

We are contiuning to spray with cedarside.

Sorry for any misspelled words I can't see these things are in my eyes.

I am also trying to find a PCO to Vikane but no such luck as of yet - would you

be willing to email me the name of your provider?

Thanks for your feedback. Our home isn't huge. Hoping to find a firm who can do

this for under 5k.

We tried several companies in our small town and no one was willing to use

vikane gas tenting because it has to be done at 10times the concentration as

compared to termite control and it is an off-label use (according to the

Dow-chem) and so the pest control operators felt like it was illegal for them to

do so. They said they talked to Dow Chemical about this and that it was

dangerous to use Vikane at that concentration in a home. Some could get trapped

in an air space and come out later and cause harm or even death.

California has very strict guidelines for chemical pesticide use too. Also, we

contacted pest control companies from outside our area and they said they could

only use pest chemical in their own area according to their business license and

insurance, etc...

Let us know how it goes for you.

Be sure they use the right chemicals... I know some people have had success with Vikane tenting, but I don't trust these pest control people. They did nothing for us after spending huge bucks. They are very slick and sell a good story.

L. Re: Vikane Tenting

Hi there bharringtonz,I'm glad you started this subject because I am thinking along the same lines you are. Tent the entire house and the bird mites have no where to run. I'm thinking Terminex or Orkin. Has anyone here tried either or both these services and if so which did you prefer? Thanks in advance for any help. Thanks for responding. We have a half basement and one main floor on top of

that. All together about 1700 square feet. Do they charge by square footage?

Thanks. Kim

Hello there z3. Thanks for responding to my post. Do you remember which pest

All of the pest control companies want to treatment the house, just not with

Vikane. We tried Terminex, Piped piper, DeAngelo, Cardiff, Hydrex, Western, and

I am forgetting a few others who we met with. We had to show them the bird mite

specimens under the microscope because they can only treat the house if you can

prove you have pests and our are invisible to the naked eye.

I just went through the phone book and met with each company at our house 1 at

a time over about 5-6 months. Our dermatologist and the local vextor control

kept telling us we needed to treat our home more and more. We absolutely did

everything legal under the sun I think. We even did off-label use of Temp and

Nylar ourselves... Sprayed weekly with Windex for about 3 months. Heated the

house professionally. They ruined our home and botched the job sooo badly. We

are very attached to our home. Too attached for our own good.

I don't know the name of the company they used. What State are you in Kim? I could maybe try to find out for you, but they are based in San Francisco and don't know if the companies are all throughout the 50 states. I also don't know their whole story, only heard second hand through another friend who got mites from them.

The Orkin rep I talked to was obsessive about the square footage maintaing the

size of our house would pose a problem. Guessing he was just looking for a

reason to over charge. If you get a chance schedule a consult and let me know

what they quote you. Some people here are saying the pest companies refuse to

spray with Vikane at the amount necessary to eradicate bird mites. I got no such

indication from the rep I talked to but keep that in mind when choosing your

pest control.

Just thought I would post my update regarding Vikane tenting. I finally found a

PCO to provide an estimate - we have 5500 square feet - no basement. After they

arrived at my home the proceeded to tell me that we cannot Vikane until March as

once the temps start dipping below 50 too much of the gas stays at the bottom of

the home and does not reach the upper floors and crawl spaces.....does that

sound right? So now what? So sad.....I don't know why but I just really hoped

this would be the thing that finally beat these buggers!

Thanks Lynn. I am totally going to try to menthol them out...I have only been

using one burner - I just move it room to room....I am going to order 10 of 'em.

Cedarcide does not seem to make a huge difference for us - not sure why...but

today I made my husband do the house and attics (he was skipping the attics and

crawl spaces with it - perhaps that's why it wasn't more beneficial). I am also

going to try Bill's mix in my Cedarcide sprayer. Today has been a good day mite

wise - I am grateful - hope you are feeling well.

Please don't take that in the wrong way because I do appreciate you taking all

looking more for advice on fumigation with Vikane. Thanks, Kim

The menthol is very good. At one point I had menthol spilled in my car and with the southrn heat I would drive around with tears streaming down my face. Probably not healthy to be inhaling it that waySent from my iPhoneOn Nov 18, 2010, at 1:50 PM, "southernbuggirl" <jpingolt@...> wrote:

Hey Kim you should simply google Vikane tenting. You will get all the information you need there. Sent from my iPhoneOn Nov 18, 2010, at 6:36 PM, kimstat90 <no_reply > wrote:

Hi again Rush. First the warm welcome and now you're telling me to look

elsewhere for help? One of the reasons I'm here is because I want to interact

with others who want to talk about Vikane fumigation. I can't interact with a

search engine. Thanks, Kim
