Dear Rashelle, Thank you so much sis for putting the link on here for removing that dreadful virus. I have TWO virus scanners but SOMEHOW that awful virus got me and I couldn't get rid of it. Evidently I hadn't upgraded before the virus decided to pay me a visit. Bet I don't do that again!!!!!!!!!! I had spoken to the guys at Gateway and tried to get up with my Virus program support people to get it off my computer. I mean I had a time!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sure don't want it coming back again!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for saving the day dear sister ;-) Seems good to be "well" again :-)

OK Karma, I will. I know my ActiveX came up when I clicked on her message. If it doesn't have a virus, reckon why the ActiveX shows up?? Boy -o-boy LOL

Bonnie,

It didn't show up as having a virus with my computer. If you aren't sure, go to egroups and look at messages section. Messages with virus have a really weird gobbldy gook at the end of the message there.

Hi Rose, I don't know why, but whenever I get an e-mail from you, my "ActiveX control" shows up telling me that it isn't safe. I don't know why. I run McAfee too :-) I'm sorry I said anything since Karma said it didn't show up on her computer either. I don't know WHY mine shows that there is something unsafe when I click on your mail. Even this last message you sent caused my warning to pop up. I just don't know what to think!!!! Sorry if I alarmed you. Must be something wrong with MY ActiveX thingy!!!!! Please accept my sincere apology.

Hi guys,

The active X showed up on my computer too, both on Rose and now on Bonnie. I just enabled this feature yesterday so it would advise me of any problems.

I don't know quite what to say.

My hubby called me from work, too, to warn me about the I Love You virus.

They had to shut down all the computers at his job. Sounds like serious

stuff.

Here's what I read about on AOL's Virus Alert:

**VBS/LoveLetter**

A new virus called VBS/LoveLetter has been discovered to be spreading widely

over the Internet. Despite initial reports that the virus was limited to

Europe and Asia, it is hitting many U.S. corporate sites as well

This virus has been reported by users of America Online, and is being

distributed by e-mail to AOL users. Note: The e-mail with the infected file

may come from, or look like it came from someone you know! Do not download

this file!

Preliminary analysis indicates that this virus, written in VBS script,

infects in a similar manner to the <A

HREF= " aol://4344:2452.MelisA.26164725.628526638 " > Virus</A>, seeming

to primarily affect Microsoft Outlook users at this time. You can look for a

file called win-bugsfix.exe to indicate infection.

VBS/Loveletter has been distributed as an attachment to an e-mail with the

subject line " ILOVEYOU " . The attachment has been widely reported with the

name " LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs " . See sample e-mail below.

If you need help in dealing with this virus, check The <A

HREF= " aol://1722:virus " >Anti-Virus Center</A> and the <A

HREF= " aol://5863:126/mBLA:237601 " >PC Virus Protection</A> message boards. An <

A HREF= " aol://4400:27083 " >Anti-virus driver update</A> for this virus is now

available in the Anti-Virus Center for use with VirusScan software. A <A

HREF= " aol://4400:24441 " >free demo of VirusScan</A> is also available for your

convenience, but you should remember to apply the driver update to this

software after downloading it.

Stuart is there a time when it was sent or when you received it, I replied

to your message and wondered if it originated from me. although I have

McAfee too.

My second response to this, I have just done a complete McAfee scan and I

have no folders with any virus.

I've deleted the message now, so I can't tell you when I got it! If you're

using the latest McAfee search engine and DAT files, I doubt very much it

could have come from you.

You don't need to reply to the message to spread a virus - it spreads itself

without you knowing. You only need to have read the attachment. If you've

had an attachment that you expected something to happen and nothing did,

then that could well be a virus. If you open the virus while you're offline,

then it just waits until you're online to send itself.

Incidentally, the virus I received is a variant of the 'Snow white' virus

troubling the ECO list from time to time - I know you're subscribed to that

list too. If your virus checker has picked up on the 'Snow white' version,

it should have got this one.

Regards

Stu

Looks like it's a hoax, but who knows.. here's what I found on the matter:

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/koobface.asp

In July 2010 a variant (which sometimes incorrectly rendered " koobface "

as " Knob Face " ) began circulating, claiming that the virus was being

spread by messages including a subject line or body text of " Barack

Obama Clinton Scandal " :

Virus spreading like wildfire on Facebook! It is a Trojan worm called

" koob face. " It will steal your info, invade your system and shut it

down! DO NOT open the link Barack Obama Clinton Scandal! If SmartGirl15

requests you as a friend, don't accept it; it is a virus. If somebody on

your list adds her, you get the virus too! Please copy and paste to your

wall.

This variant is a hoax: there is no evidence that Koobface has been

spread via " Barack Obama Clinton Scandal " messages. Likewise, the

warning about " SmartGirl15 " is

just another updating of another long-running Internet hoax.

Going on since July..
