Guest guest
CAVEAT Sunday, 20 November 2011 Okay everybody, time to Google "Dictionary!" That's right, I've got a new word for you and today's word is CAVEAT. Wait, before you go searching for the definition, I've already done it for you. So...what's a caveat? A caveat is a warning or acaution. Simply put, a caveat is a warning or a caution. It's like when someone tells you something really good but, there's a caveat at the end. That means, there's a caution to consider along with the great news or story they're about to share with you. And why am I bringing this word up today? Well, read today's message to the end and I'll tell you the caveat to this story. It begins with a news story I saw on ABC a couple of weeks ago. It was all about a new diet pill they've been working on. (Oh,--groan--not another one!) They've made "progress" with research on this new pill and have already tested it on monkeys. Here's how their little test worked. They took some of the more overweight chimps from a colony of monkeys and tested the new drug on them. I should point out, the monkeys they chose were not only overweight but they were a lot less active than those who were not overweight. The overweight moneys were noticeably more sedentary. (Hmmm, I wonder why?) Looks like modern science has finally come up with the miracle cure for weight-loss we've all been waiting for! Well, they tried this new drug on the overweight monkeys and...guess what? Each of them lost weight! (Sounds promising so far, right?) According to the drug's manufacturers, this new diet pills actually attacked the fat cells in the overweight monkeys' bodies, causing them to lose weight. WOW! Doesn't that sound just perfect? My goodness, so it looks like modern science has finally come up with the miracle cure for weight-loss we've all been waiting for! But wait, before you get all excited, take a deep breath because here's where our word for the day comes in. Yes, here comes...the CAVEAT! As soon as those monkeys who'd lost weight returned to their regular sedentary lifestyles, they all gained back the weight they'd lost! Uh-huh, there's the story's caveat...the warning! Sounds to me like this new drug, which they expect to begin testing on humans in about a year is, (once again), not going to be that "magic bullet" so many people are searching for to solve their weight problems. It's just not going to happen that way, gang! If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't! Won't we ever learn? This story's caveat is sort of a play on that old saying...If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't! How many times have I told you that losing weight and---keeping it off, pill or no pill, is always going to boil down to two things. You've got to get in charge of what and how much you eat. And, like those monkeys, you can't keep the weight off by living a sedentary lifestyle. You've got to make exercise a part of your life...everyday. So please, don't uhhh..."monkey around" with your weight-loss efforts. Cut back on how much you eat, get that body of yours moving, stay positive and you will begin losing the weight you want and need to lose!
