ON A SCALE

OF 1-10...

Friday, 03 February 2012

With 10 being the

hungriest, how "hungry" are you? You'll notice, I

put the word hungry in quotes

and I did that for a reason. (You'll see why

later.) Now I wonder...how many people would

choose the number "10" to rate their hunger,

without even thinking about it? I mean, are they

really that hungry?

Well, probably not.

Are you "hungry"

because this is the time of day you usually eat

something?

I also wonder how many times hunger gets mixed up

with our emotions or we just allow our "hunger" to

become a habit? Are you "hungry" because this is

the time of day you usually eat something? Are

you "hungry" because some tempting food has been

put in your face and you just must have it?

Are you "hungry" because you're bored and eating

will give you "something to do?" All of these

little cues can lead us to eat when we actually

may not be hungry at all. Those cues just tell us it's

time to eat something. And

oh my goodness, can those miscues ever get us into

trouble with our weight!

Please, don't misread what your brain

is telling you. Are

you really

hungry? When the phone rings and you settle in

for a long conversation, do you reach for a bag of

chips and a soda to munch and sip during the

conversation? Do you keep unhealthy snacks in

your car, you know, just in case you get "hungry"

while you're driving? If you pass an ice cream

shop while shopping at the mall, do you

instinctively stop for a scoop of Rocky Road

before heading on to Macy's?

You equate

certain everyday activities with food. and that's

a bad habit you've got to stop!

See what I mean? In not one of those situations

were you actually hungry. It's just

that you've equated certain everyday activities

with food. That's a bad habit you've just got to

stop!

The next time you're about to eat any food, other

than the ones that are part of your daily, healthy

weight-loss food program, ask yourself this

question and answer it honestly. AM I

REALLY HUNGRY? I'll

betcha, nine times out of ten, the answer will be NO!

If you've just had one of your three healthy meals

for the day, chances are, you're not physically

hungry. Drink a big glass of ice-cold water and

if you just have to put food in your mouth, make

sure you have some good-for-you freebies on hand,

like celery or carrot sticks. A munchy, crunchy,

low-calorie, high-fiber snack may be all you need

to keep you from making a mad-dash for that candy

bar or a couple of chocolate-chip cookies.

Learn to

recognize the difference between hunger and habit.

Learn to recognize the difference between hunger

and habit. Make sure you plan and have your three

well-balanced meals a day. (My FoodMover will help you

do just that.) Having healthy snacks during

the day will help keep your hunger, uh...I mean your

habit at

bay. Because, I'm telling you, many of the times

you think you're hungry, it's not your "hunger"

you're feeding. You're more than likely

feeding...a habit!

Love,
