DESTINY OR

CHOICE?

Friday, 23 December 2011

So when it comes to what you weigh...which is

it? Do you weigh what you weigh because of destiny?

Or do you weigh what you weigh by choice?

Well, let's explore the two, shall we?

Being overweight is

just in my genes.

Okay, I wonder how many people chalk their obesity up

to family matters. See if this little speech sounds

familiar to you.

Oh, being overweight is just in my genes. My

mother and her mother were

both overweight. And you should see the two aunts

on my father's side, they're both enormous, God

bless them. Look, I know I need to lose at least

100 pounds but what's the point of even trying?

Like I said, being overweight runs in my family.

It's simply in my genes so I'm better off just

accepting it.

Well! That's

quite a mouthful, isn't it? But how many people live

by that little "rule?" I wonder if those words make

the person saying them feel better about what they

weigh? Now, as you ponder that question yourself, I

want you to consider the second part of my original

question. The part that deals with choice.

I can't tell you how many

people I know who blame their obesity on their DNA.

I can't tell you how many people I know who, like the

person above, blaming their obesity on their DNA, also

have a number of overweight family members. If you're

one of those people blaming your weight on genetics,

let me ask you this: Is everyone in your family

overweight. Come on...every member of

your family? Oh, of course not!

So, what does that tell me? It tells me that even if

obesity does "run in your family," it doesn't mean

YOU have

to be! You see, it's all about choice.

It's so simple, really.

If you choose to accept that you're "destined" to be

overweight, then you may very well end up remaining

overweight for the rest of your life. BUT...if you

choose to

take charge of your eating habits. If you choose to make

exercise a dedicated part of your life. If you

choose to

keep that attitude of yours strong and positive, then

I've got news for you. You're on your way to having

the healthier, happier life you've, well...chosen

to have.

Which is going to determine

the quality of how you live the rest of your life? Destiny or choice?

So tell me, which is going to determine the quality of

how you live the rest of your life? Are you gonna end

up feeling depressed about your weight, blaming it on

your destiny? Or are you going to celebrate your life

by living in the sunshine of success because you've

made...the right choice!

Love,
