ADDICTION

Thursday, 08 December 2011

During the course of my lifetime, I've had to

fight more than my share of addictions. And I have to

say, addictions, of any kind, are always very hard to

give up. But, (I'm proud to say), I have only one

real addiction today. And what is it? Hey, do you

even have to ask? It's

exercise!

In my younger days, I was

addicted alright. That is, to oyster Po-boys and

ice-cold glasses of Coca-Cola!

But get this. If anyone would've told me, years ago,

that I'd be writing a column about my

addiction to exercise, I would've

laughed out loud and assumed they were nuts!

In my younger days back in New Orleans, I was addicted

alright. That is, to oyster Po-boys and ice-cold

glasses of Coca-Cola! But never and I mean...never was I

interested in working out. Please, the whole idea

of exercise was just plain silly to me.

I would see all of the other kids at school on the

playground having a so-called good time, playing

and...sweating! All of that sweat, I thought

it was just disgusting.

I've told you before that I was 28 years-old

when I took my very first aerobics class. During and

after that class, I felt like I was on the verge of

dying! And hey, sweating in some exercise class was not the way

I wanted to go! LOL. Oh, I was so sore after that

first workout, I could barely lift my legs or move my

arms. But I did notice, a couple of days later, that I felt

really good. And so, I

ended up taking another aerobics class and, in time...I

was hooked. So hooked, in fact, that I ended

up opening my own aerobics studio. And I've been

teaching my classes at Slimmons ever since. And oh

yeah, at Slimmons, I try to get everyone hooked on

my exercise addiction!

I always have a smile on my

face when I'm teaching class. Exercise just makes

me feel good!

Research shows that exercise triggers the release of

certain chemicals in the brain called endorphins.

These endorphins turn on the brain's pleasure center

and it's why exercise makes us feel so good. Hey, so

that's why I

always have a smile on my face when I'm teaching

class. Exercise just makes me feel good!

For one thing, when I'm working out and sweatin', I

know that I'm burning calories and fat. That exercise

is also helping to fine-tune my heart and lungs. And

if that weren't enough, exercise gets the blood

flowing from our brains all the way to our cute little

toes.

I've always told you that exercise leads us to the Fountain

of Youth. And look at me. I don't look a day

over 59

1/2 years

old! LOL!

How many of you have been

true to your workouts this month?

Now I wonder, how many of you have been true

to your workouts this month, Do you belong to a gym

or the YMCA? If you do, please don't stop going, especially this

month. Do you have a piece of exercise equipment in

your home, just sitting there? Well, don't let it

"just sit there" anymore. Put that piece of exercise

equipment to work and put that

body of yours to work, too!

And if you really want to get

those endorphins in your brain going, why not pop in

one of my workout DVDs and we can sweat together! In

fact, why not get the rest of your family to join

you a couple of times during the holidays. That way,

you can all have fun sweatin' and burning off some of

those holiday calories at the same time!

Oh, I can't wait to teach class at Slimmons

tonight and

feed my addiction. Wish you could be there

with me and all of my

fellow exercise addicts!

Love,
