I FEEL

PRETTY!

Friday, 09 September 2011

Oh I

just love that Broadway show and the hit movie by the

same name, West Side Story. There were so

many classic songs in the show but I have to say that my

favorite is called I Feel Pretty.

See

the pretty girl in the mirror there?

Who can that attractive girl be?

Such a pretty face,

Such a pretty dress,

Such a pretty smile,

Such a pretty me!

Last week, we talked about how some people cover

up their bodies by wearing dark, depressing colors of

clothes...and lots of them. Well today, we're going to

talk about your face. That face, that face, that

beautiful face. It shines and glows all over the

place. (Thank You, Fred Astaire!)

So

tell me, what do you see when you look into the mirror?

Maybe you see a freckle, a birthmark or a wrinkle.

Something you think of as an "imperfection"? Yeah?

Well, that's not what I see. I see two very

pretty eyes, a cute nose and a fabulous smile. To me,

everyone has a pretty face. But do you take the

beautiful features of your face to the next level...by

using a little makeup?

Oh, women have been using makeup just about since the

beginning of human history. Long before there was

lipstick, Cleopatra would use the color from ground-up

cherries to paint her lips and give them lots of sheen.

She'd also dab a little of that mixture onto her cheeks

to make them glow, rosy and warm.

Well, things have changed a lot since thousands of years

ago. All of the major department stores how have

dedicated cosmetics departments. And there're even

stores that specialize exclusively in cosmetics. Their

total mission is to make you...feel pretty!

I used to watch as my mother put on her makeup in the

morning, as she prepared to leave for work. And I'm

sure I've told you before, she sold cosmetics and

fragrances for the Coty line at Maison Blanche

department store on Canal Street in New Orleans. I

would sit and watch as she put on her foundation then

powdered her face. She was so cute as she did her eye

shadow and eyelashes followed by blush and lipstick.

When she was finished, Shirley would turn to me and ask,

"So , how do I look?"

I

always had to tell her the truth, "Mom, you look

just like a movie star." And I'm telling you...she

did!

No matter where you live, I know there's a department

store near you that has a complete makeup department,

often with a resident makeup artist working there, too.

You should visit the store, (maybe even this weekend),

talk to one of the makeup professionals and see what she

suggests for your face.

Remember,

makeup is used to accentuate and highlight the best

features of your one-of-a-kind beautiful face. And hey,

why shouldn't you look as lovely and fabulous as you

can...everyday!

You are pretty...oh, so pretty!

Love,
