When

I reached 268 pounds, I stopped weighing myself. I

figured, hey, why even bother? I mean, why

did I want to see those numbers on my scale whiz past

2-6-8, huh? Now the truth is, when I even thought about

getting on the scale, I'd get scared to death! Oh yeah,

I did keep a scale in my bathroom. But it kept better

track of what the towels weighed I stacked on top of it

than on what my weight was. I'm just being

honest with you.

Back

then, there were always two voices inside my head. One

of them would say to me, , just be a man and

step on the scale. But then the other voice was

always saying, , don't you dare get on that

scale...under any circumstances. You don't need to

see those numbers!

Oh, I'm sure I must have weighed more than 268 pounds

before I went to work turning my life around by losing

weight. But you know what? Every week, I receive

E-mail from men and women who're stacking towels or

magazines on top of their scales. They

probably also have those same two voices shouting inside

their heads. Like the ones I used to hear all the time

in my own head.

Well, you know what? Even if you don't get on the

scale, you'll still get depressed. Why? It'll be the

factor of the unknown, that's why. You may be afraid to

get on the scale but in the back of your mind is that fear

of the unknown. What do you weigh...really?

But if you finally get up the courage to step on the

scale, chances are, you'll end up depressed because the

unknown will give way to the truth.

Just

the other day, a lady E-mailed and told me she hadn't

been on the scale in two years, even though she kept a

scale in her bathroom. After calling her, I told her to

take a deep breath, get on that scale to see, once and

for all, just what she weighed. With me waiting on the

phone, she did finally weigh herself. And she was truly

shocked by the numbers she saw. Actually, I'm glad I

was on the phone with her when she saw the truth about

her weight. See, she ended up getting very, very

upset. The hard truth was now in front of her eyes. In

two years, she'd gained 65 pounds and was now painfully

close to weighing 400 pounds.

Look, if the scale has been absent from your life, you

need to remove all of that stuff you've got stacked on

it and prepare yourself to face the truth. And oh yeah,

dust it off real good and spray it with a little Windex,

okay? Hey, dust has to weigh something! LOL.

But seriously, once you do begin weighing yourself, I

want you to decide how often you'll weigh yourself as

you work to lose weight. You also should keep a journal

of your weight so you can chart your progress as you

work to reach your goal. Some people get on the scale

once-a-day or once-a-week. There's a gentleman who

attends Slimmons and he weighs himself only once-a-month.

That weigh-in schedule must work for him, too because

he's already lost 25 pounds.

Don't

let the scale drive you nuts. Remember, at a time when

you need it most, that scale is there to tell you just

one thing. The truth and...nothing but the truth.

Love,
