Guest guest
Hi Jami, Congratulations that people are noticing changes in you. I think this is such a huge motivator. I was in week 10 already before a friend gave me the, " Hey what are you doing to yourself? " admiring talk and it meant such a lot. Just think, you are only in week 6 - by week 12 that trumpet of yours will blow the rest of the band players right off the stage! Leaner. Guest guest
a, That's really neat about your dad. What a beautiful way to preserve memories. Would I know his name or the bands he played in? Did you hear him live? That's really cool! I am mostly a jazz player, although I play all kinds of styles (whatever gigs come my way...gotta pay the rent!). My main gig, though, is with a big band called DIVA. You can check out our website, if you'd like. It's www.divajazz.com. Our itinerary is on there, too, in case we're going to be in anyone's neck of the woods. Let me know! We played at a really nice club tonight, and Soupy Sales (sp?) was there! He's a big fan of ours. Off the subject...what can I do for sore shoulders?? They always hurt at night after an upper body day. Ouch! Jami > Jami, > How cool about your music and trumpet endurance. I have a soft spot in my heart for trumpet players, my Dad was a trumpet player too..Jazz and Swing mostly big band stuff from the 40's, etc. I was weaned on that stuff...still have some old LP's and a recording of my dad playing in the Marine Band during the Korean war...interesting stuff... > You play that horn, gir!!!!! > a

Guest guest
Like I told you before Jami. I always thought that th life of a musisian was exciting and a bit romantic. very cool! Did you get to talk to to Soupy Sales? I just love him.... Pain can be a tough one. I like feeling sore. Is this pain or sorness? If you eat some carbs right after you workout, I've been told, can help. Grabing a sauna or a whirlpool too might help. Jen
Guest guest
, here's my .02 worth: I know how overwhelming school can be. My last year and a half of college, I was working full time, married, we were building a new house, and I was taking 15 hours of college at night. I lived on microwave popcorn and use to send cards to my husband because I was never home. I think most of all you have to feel good about yourself first. If you don't like yourself and believe in yourself, then most anything you try will not go well. Next I think you have to focus on finding things that are just for you, like LifeLift. I love LL because it's a relaxing 20 minutes a day and I feel at peace when I'm done. Plus I'm doing something just for me. Then focus on eating good. I'm the big juicer on the board but I think if you can focus on foods in their purest form, you can't go wrong...like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, fish, etc. Once you start adding things like sugar, starches, process four, and preservatives then you start having these things act like insulin to your body and your brain keeps telling you it's hungry. Plus these kinds of additives make your food digest faster so you get hungry faster. Between LL and eating good foods, your skin should be improved too. Good luck in school. > Hi guys! Guest guest
Melisa, This is a wonderful response to your question. I would add that one of the most important things is to remember to stay focused on the positive things you really want for yourself. If you find your mind being invaded by anything negative, change the focus by thinking of things that really make you feel good. I believe strongly in making a short list of what you want so you can see it right in front of your eyes. List the things that would make a difference for you and put them in order of priority. For instance. 1- Building energy. Without energy you cannot enjoy anything else. You must feel good physically to be able to enjoy the other aspects of your life. A- In order to have energy I need to Do at least 20 Life Lift breaths daily Drink at least 8 glasses of water. Stress depletes my water so I must drink water. Eat every couple of hours to keep my body fueled. Now, you can make up your own list, but by doing it this way you have broken it down in simple steps and you have identified what it is you are really trying to achieve. Don't overwhelm yourself, make a list that feels degestible. Something you can do without creating more stress for yourself. You can then write a small message to yourself to remind you of what you will gain from doing this. I will look better, feel better and be a better student since my engery and concentration will be improved from doing all of this. Yes, and I am worth it. So Melisa, by writing it out this way you see real reasons for doing it and you have given yourself a map to follow. It makes it more fun and you feel like you have accomplished something great at the end of each day when you can check off each thing you have done. Good luck on this, just remember to take good care of yourself and remember you deserve to have all the best things for yourself. Guest guest
Good for you Jana!!! Good luck on your new goals! Rita goals I've been stifled a few weeks now, but yesterday I had a great cardio session that helped me re-evaluate everything mentally. It's amazing when you are focused on something, how everything else in your life comes together! Since my grandma died, I've been flip-flopping and not focusing on anything in particular. Very ping-pong like! (look at me, I'm a ping pong) So I've rewritten my goals and have stepped up the program so I can get back into the BFL life that was working so well for me! If you hear a faint cry of " TOWANDA!!! " or something similar, it's me. Jana

Guest guest
WOW your goals sound great! I want to lose 15 to 20 pounds by May. I gave myself more time as I am slowly losing due to my thyroid problems. I am toning and losing inches though. I want to committ to exercise as a lifestyle change not a quick fix. To be happy with who I am and how I look. To have a healthy body. I am sure by sticking with this program I can accomplish my goals to. I am also not going to weigh myself like an obsessed idiot anymore. I will do it once a month. That is it for now. Guest guest
Pat, SQUATS, SQUATS, SQUATS!! I never really had a problem with no butt but it was flabby and out of shape. Several months later I was looking in the mirror wondering if my butt looked strange- looked just like there was half a ball at the top of my legs. A male friend had to explain to me that was what women WANTED. OHHHHHH! I think Stace credited squats with giving her a butt. I think you can see her great pictures in the I Worked My Butt Off folder in the Photos section of this club!(gettnskinny) Lynda

Guest guest
<<Now....do you reccomend doing said squats with the heel slightly elevated? (does that target better) or just flat.>> Just flat. Concentrate on sitting back- the action starts in the hips not the knees, knees never go past the toes, weight stays in the heels at all times. PUSH though the heels to come up and the chest leads the way up, not the butt. HTH!!
Guest guest
> Anyone else out there trying to build a butt?? If so how are you > doing and is it eve possible???? Well I don't know if this is possible but I'm trying! I'm doing squats and lunges. I haven't really seen much progress in my butt but my legs feel stronger and look more defined. My other goals are to see a six pack, not have my thighs rub together, wear those low rise jeans, and just generally feel better about myself. Oh, and most importantly, I want to be a good role model for my little girl (whose turning 1 on the 10th). I've had a hard time sticking with BFL (not that it's hard to follow, it's just me) but I'm trying not to be a restarter . So I just keep on and read the posts here and that seems to help a lot. Everyone here is great. Virginia

Guest guest
Pat, I don't have a " big " butt, however it has a good shape. My husband says,no matter how much weight I've gained or lost, including while I'm pregnant, my butt always looks good. So this is what I do, because " no-butt " syndrome runs in my family. I run, I run incline, I do lunges, squats, hamstring press and really important,on the curl, I lift hard, make certain I get the rep all the way up to my rear, and squeeze! Also, I'm a firm believer in using my legs and rear to pick things up, instead of my back. Good luck! C There are panties you can buy with butt and or hip pads...the hips I'd like!! - but as my husband says about padded bras, I guess that's false advertisement. Guest guest
Hi , you might get varied opinions on this. I, like you, understand the *why* of Jake taking steps to try to get back in public school. But if he's thriving or even just managing to do well with his education at home, and even enjoying it, then I vote for his staying with this until he feels he's ready to take a step towards school. My opinion also involves that I think many people do well with homeschooling or some type of " alternative " school, e.g., high school classes at college (different environment). I feel my oldest son would have done great in either of those environments, he just didn't fit in the regular classroom, wish we'd had the option. I even looked at online schooling for him that would qualify at one time. Anyway, just saying that you know Jake best and putting OCD aside, he might just be the type to do better with learning the present way. Is he socializing any? Although I know personality can play a part in that too. My OCD son also has Aspergers and has no socializing outside of whatever he gets at school. (he's 16) He's also one who would shut down if too much pressure was put on him back when OCD was a major problem and even a " waning " problem, but still there daily. Just some quick thoughts. Education is what is going to take him thru his college and/or adult life. would have failed grades without my assistance back when his OCD was worse, and he's way too smart to allow that to happen when he could pass with accommodations from school (including my writing for him at home). He could learn the material, it was getting it done, etc. OK, let us know how things go. I know it's tough to go against a doctor, perhaps a compromise as to more socializing might help and Jake's just saying he will think about it for later or that he does plan to take classes for college.... > Hi everyone, its been a while since i posted last Jake has been > amazing.Jake is now taking Fluoxetine and is so much improved in many > areas. > As any parent supporting a child with OCD the main aim is to help > them achieve the best they can.
