Guest guest Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Stefanie, Read the info about it on Sheri N's website: http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/tetanus.htm There are many who have been harmed by it. I am one. I had terrible joint pain for months after my last tetanus booster nearly 10 years ago. I will never have another one. The injections also contain mercury, so absolutely your precious baby would be at risk with breastfeeding. Do your research. Once the shot has been given, there's no going back. Kay Need Tetanus booster, but breastfeeding 3 week old son... Anybody advice? > Hi there, > > I have a 3 week old son and I am exclusively breastfeeding him. > Yesterday I cut my fingertip off when cooking. And read my pages on tetanus and the vaccine http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/tetanus.htm you are hardly at risk here for tetanus I know it is scary when you are first starting. Guest guest Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 >>Hi there, >> >>I have a 3 week old son and I am exclusively breastfeeding him. >>Yesterday I cut my fingertip off when cooking. It was bleeding a lot >>and I got proper wound care at and ER room. I declined the tetanus >>yesterday. >> I'm glad you declined, and don't worry. I cut the tip off my finger (in a food processor) a few years ago too. Talk about pain. And I wouldn't go to the emergency room (no insurance). Tetanus is NOT a worry when you cut something off. Heck, I don't think it's even a worry if you puncture something deeply, as long as you make it bleed. You won't get tetanus from your cooking accident. The hospital was just covering it's you-know-what by trying to get you to take the vaccine. There are lots of baddies in vaccines. Let me tell you. Before I got on the road to no-vaxxing, I had (in my late 20's) both an MMR booster shot and the usual 10-year-or-you'll-die tetanus booster. Well, within two years I had developed Reynaud's Syndrome :-( Not something fun to live with. I'm working with a homeopath now. Don't put anything into yourself that you wouldn't want going into your child. That's the best advice I can offer. Hope the pain fades soon. Take care, Bobbett Quote
Guest guest Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 You could have blood drawn to check your immunity. Some people never require a booster, while others show no immunity after a year. There have been studies that show high titer patients have gotten tetanus.Makes you wonder:what the heck is the point then? The 10 year thing is just a general recommendation. Having a sore hand and caring for a baby is hard enough.Add to that either tetanus(very unlikely)or a reaction(who knows),and you may need to have family come in an help.Since you got proper wound care for now I would decline the shot, but consider having titers done and take it from there later on.Personally I think over all health and wound care will determine whether one gets tetanus, but then there is always that oddball case. Best wishes and healings whatever you decide! ps.read the insert to the vaccine before agreeing to it. --------------------------------- Check out the New - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster. Hi all JUST AN FYI - vaccines do NOT give immunity and antibody titers after vaccines do not mean immunity. There have > been studies that show high titer patients have gotten tetanus.Makes you > wonder:what the heck is the point then? The 10 year thing is just a general > recommendation. Really really look at this - all vaccines are dangerous. No vaccine gives immunity. > > Having a sore hand and caring for a baby is hard enough.Add to that > either tetanus(very unlikely)or a reaction(who knows),and you may need > to have family come in an help.Since you got proper wound care for now > I would decline the shot, And even if you didn't do proper wound care, the vaccine does not give immunity. And how much tetanus is in your kitchen. All need to investigate the reality of the risk, the disease and the vaccine. Guest guest Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 One way to test if the vaccine is providing immunity/protection is to expose oneself to the disease. I don't know anyone willing to do that Then ofcourse there are those who never have a vaccine, are exposed, and don't get the disease. There is so much we don't know about how the body works! --------------------------------- Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited Try it today. Quote
Guest guest Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 You're highly unlikely to get tetanus from cutting yourself whilst cooking unless perhaps your kitchens in a paddock somewhere and you dont pracitce cleanliness. I have never had a tetanus shot in my life, no-one in my family has and we have all cut ourselves in far more risky places than this. (My grandparents lived on a farm for a while amongst other tings...) Guest guest Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Hi all, thank you so much for all the input. I actually went to the doctor again and asked them to check my antibody titers. (My best friends suggestion - she is a veterinarian homeopath in Germany). This was before I read all your replies. Now, I know that even this result will not be very helpful... By the way, I was concerned about the tetanus living in some residues of earth on the peel of my organic potateo - is it ridiculous to be concerned about this? I guess, I will follow your advice and just let go of the shot... if I just procastinate the decision long enough the 72 hours will be gone by anyway )...Letting go of my fear is easy during the day, at night I am worried about dying from Tetanus and leaving my two kids without their mother, I am equally worried about the vaccine reactions... Janet, I am so sorry to hear your story - it made me almost cry... thanks for sharing. Stefanie Quote
Guest guest Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I watch alot of those medical shows on tv, like " Trama, Life in the Er " and they are always asking the patients if they have had a tetnus shot. It doesn't even matter what happened, even a car accident. I think it must be routine to ask this. Guest guest Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 My husband was in a car accident and scratched his arm. At the hospital, they relentlessly pushed the tetanus on him, but he held strong and resisted. Do you know they didn't even have the decency to even clean the cut before discharging him. It made absolutely no sense; the whole thing is backwards....Anita Tara Maue <orrin_reilly@...> wrote: I watch alot of those medical shows on tv, like " Trama, Life in the Er " and they are always asking the patients if they have had a tetnus shot. Guest guest Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 It's because tetanus can infect even minor abrasions, especially " dirty ones. " I think in real life they recommend it partly as just a safety precaution and partly to cover their butts. On TV, they're trying to do a public service of " raising awareness " of getting your tetanus shot... and covering their butts. I have to say, tetanus is one of the shots I have been most concerned about skipping. I'm pretty conservative about weighing the pros and cons of vaxxes, but the research (some on Sheri's website, some online at emedicine.com (a website for medical professionals, I believe, based on the technical language used)) has led me to think that the chances of getting tetanus are slim, and there is a high recovery rate. Yes, it's a pretty yucky, dramatic thing to get, usually requires hospitalization with sedatives, antitoxin, etc..) I don't know what the comparable chances of suffering damage from the vaccine are, but if it were me, I'd rather chance getting tetanus, especially because tetanus, unless you get brain damage from it, will not give you permanent damage the way damage from the vax will. You can be exposed to tetanus and not get it, and it really does need to be an anaerobic (no oxygen) environment because tetanus bacilli cannot survive in an oxygenated environment. That's why puncture wounds are usually the ones people worry about most. Cutting off your fingertip... lots of oxygen there, and lots of bleeding to cleanse the wound. You know, I don't know the last time I had my tetanus shot. I wouldn't even think to get it unless I specifically had a deep rusty nail wound, because that's the example I always heard. However, in the past few years I've had plenty of weird cuts, dirty cuts, even a cat bite from a FERAL cat that punctured my fingernail... and all they gave me was an antibiotic for that, no tetanus shot. So, clearly, it's a hit-and-miss worry for even the medical profession. Of course, they're ramping up alarm about lots of things in this country, so don't be surprised if people getting their tetanus shots doesn't become a big push in the medical community at some point in the future. -Angie On Sunday, November 5, 2006, at 04:22 PM, Tara Maue wrote: > I watch alot of those medical shows on tv, like " Trama, Life in the > Er " and they are always asking the patients if they have had a > tetnus shot. Guest guest Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 It just occurred to me that I have a cousin who is sometimes a producer for one of those shows. I wont say which one. She's also unvaccinated and I am going to ask her about what would happen if the routein tetanus shots were taken out of the scripts. I bet all hell would break loose! I cant guarentee that I'll get an answer though.
