Guest guest Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Hi everyone, I am new to the list and just wanted to give a brief introduction. I plan on going back through the old messages and seeing what I can learn, I'm sure I'll have a few questions to come. My name is Janice, and I have a lovely son named , he is 17 months old. I never fully understood the dangers with vaccines, and am really just new to this idea. I had all my vaccinations growing up, however, the amount of shots they want to give to children now is way more than what I had as a child. seemed to handle all his shots okay (although I refused the hep A, Varicella and flu shots). The funny thing is what raised a red flag for me was that my dog had a reaction to a shot. I got to searching the internet looking for information dog reactions and came across so many different sites with information on how shots are bad for humans. Anyway, this made me somewhat leery of getting his MMR, but I went ahead with it anyway, thinking he really needed this one, after all I had it with no problems. Well, he had a horrible reaction to this shot, which lasted about 3 weeks. Full head to toe rash for 3 days, temp for 3 days, unexplained screaming and crying, seemed to have aching joints because he kept grabbing at his knees and arms while crying. He acted lethargic and it seemed his entire personality changed, no smiling, laughing or even looking at us. He seemed angry and miserable. I was becoming increasingly upset and concerned, but luckily came out of this and is himself completely again… happy and no signs of any more problems. My question is, can I have tested for immunity the next time the doctors push for his MMR booster? I would imagine it would be hard to claim exemption due to religious beliefs after he has already received most shots. Would a test for immunity be enough for a school to accept him, considering his extreme reaction to the first shot? Janice Pgh PA Quote
