Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 A healthy immune system is the best defense against parasites. Hopefully your dogs are unvaxed and eating a species appropriate diet. That's the first and most important step. From another list I'm on, I have heard this recipe is an effective tick repellent: " I fill a spray bottle with water (1/2 of the water can be Apple cider vinegar instead for added protection) add 15 drops of eucalyptus oil and 15 of peppermint oil. Shake well and spray on coat. " NOTE, if your dogs (or you) are undergoing homeopathic treatment, do NOT use these essential oils. You CAN use ACV and lavendar oil in water as an alternative. And as far as signing posts, it's like signing your name to a written letter. Your name may be on the envelope, but it's STILL common courtesy to sign your name. And not everyone's names are listed on their email. HTH Kay OT- Ticks/Lyme disease We're in a heavily tick populated area and around dogs that we tick check daily - and find them. Are there any 'natural' substances to deter ticks? or to treat after the fact? Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Would this recipe work for kids as well? Is there another I should know about? We live in a high risk area; dh was infected as a child and lives with moderately painful arthritis. And for my final question, Kay, what does HTH stand for? Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Kay, Will this spray help any with fleas? I cannot bear the thought of putting that flea and tick stuff on our cat but I grew up with fleas in my house from our dogs and cats and they devoured me. It was horrible. Not to mention the chemicals it takes in your house to get rid of them. I haven't put anything on her yet but we're in warm weather now here in NC and I need some flea protection. Any tips? Sheri B. Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I don't see why it wouldn't work for kids, remembering not to use the eucalyptus or peppermint oil if undergoing homeopathic treatment. Stick to the lavender oil instead. I purchased a bottle of this insect repellent, but haven't had a chance to put it to the test yet. Again some of the ingredients might interfere with homeopathy, so check with your homeopath before using. http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/skincare.htm#Insect%20Repellent HTH = Hope That Helps Kay Re: OT- Ticks/Lyme disease Would this recipe work for kids as well? Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I'm not sure, Sheri. It was listed as a tick repellent. And with cats, I've heard they are very sensitive to essential oils (as in it can cause death), so I would check with someone more knowledgeable about that before using on your cat. Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Many strong odors or flavors, typically mint, eucalyptus, coffee, etc. have the ability to antidote remedies. It's best to check with your own homeopath as to what they recommend. Some remedies and some people are more sensitive to being antidoted than others. Kay Re: OT- Ticks/Lyme disease Why should we not use the oils if under going homeopathic treatment? Quote
Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 , some essential oils antidote homoeopathic remedies, rendering them useless. Not every essential oil does this, and different ones will affect/antidote different remedies, but if you are undergoing homoeopathic treatment it is best to play it safe. Eucalyptus in particular is a big antidoting oil, but lavender is *supposed* to be okay. My personal opinion, while respecting that there are recognised antidoting efffects to some oils, is that once a homoeopathic remedy has triggered a healing response within the body and got things moving, essential oils are unlikely to interfere with that. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 I hadn't heard that. That's why it's always best for someone to check with their homeopath to be sure. Thanks Sheri. It affected me early in my homeopathic treatment I got a migraine right after and had to repeat my remedy that had worked and brought me to a point with no migraines. Guest guest Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 I think the key is once the healing gets a good start, like Sue pointed out, then the odors might not be as big an issue. I'm always one to be safe rather than sorry, so I try to avoid them at all costs while undergoing treatment (even though I LOVE the smell of eucalyptus!)
