Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 , How did you get the Vit. C in them? I cannot seem to get it in my children. They hate the powder and they won't even chew the chewables! I'm pulling my hair out. Sheri B. stebs7@... wrote: Four of my kid had all of the above - with no problems. For mumps, I gave them 1,000 mg of Vit C every hour for the whole day each day - and the mumps were gone in 3 to 4 days. They normally last for 2weeks. Chicken pox - I just coat them with Aloe Vera Gel and give them Vit C. Pertussis - you can only shorten the length of whooping cough if you know your kids have been exposed to it and immediately give them large doses of Vit C - has to be soon after being exposed. I would much rather my kids have the disease than the shots - I am comfortable treating them with home remedies. One of our 5 children - didn't get the mumps though he has been exposed to it twice (from siblings) - he takes supplements each day that probably help him to have a strong immune system (he has epilepsy and we don't give him any drugs - just natural stuff and he never gets sick!). My 2 cents. Blessings, in Poland Quote

Guest guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Mine never notice when I put the powered sodium ascorbate in their juice, yogurt, protein shakes, oatmeal, cereal with milk, mac and cheese, really anything that is stirable. If they don't see you put it in, they won't notice I'm sure! How about sprinkling 1/4 tsp. on a bowl of ice cream (rice dream, frozen yogurt..)??? stir it up. A protein shake will hide anything--I've even put in flax seeds and vit. A drops and I have kids who hate everything. When they are really sick and will only sip juice, I just make sure that I put in 1/2 tsp. in VERY cold juice and make them keep sipping. L. Guest guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Maybe my kids have silver palates and will be wine tasters one day. Groan. Just my luck, huh? Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 I am just wondering, is it necessarily good to shorten the typical life a disease even with natural things like Vit C, aloe vera gel, Vit A etc? Could this be somehow construed as suppressive in that the disease was not allowed to run it's natural course? I'm sure I have read on this group that even homeopathy is not always called for during illness and it is best to see how the body handles it on it's own. Any thoughts anyone? Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Hi Anita, I'll take a stab at it. I don't see things like Vit C as suppressive since it's lending aid to the immune system. Kind of giving it a boost. It's not " treating " the disease, just giving the immune system a hand in dealing with it. Kind of like having a healthy diet would be supportive of a strong immune system. And you're right, one doesn't have to treat everything with homeopathy. Sheri N. has mentioned before that only if symptoms are severe or seem to be " stuck " should one give a remedy. Letting the body deal with things on its own is always best. But careful monitoring of when things seem to be at a standstill helps to know when the body may need some assistance. That's my 2 cents. : ) Kay P. > > I am just wondering, is it necessarily good to shorten the typical life a disease even with natural things like Vit C, aloe vera gel, Vit A etc? Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 So, is it safe to say if my child should get the measles, I shouldn't immediately administer vitamin A or is that something I should do without hesitation? Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 You wouldn't be treating measles with Vit. A. It's a supplement, so it should be ok to give if someone decides to. Does that help? Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Hi , Its ok to give 8,000 mg of vit c a day to children? It does seem like alot. Were there any side effects from taking so much of it? Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 What is the purpose of giving higher doses of Vit A during the measles? I thought it was a recommended form of treatment. Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Measles depletes the body's reserves of vit A, as I understand it, Anita. So supplementing aids the body in healing. In that sense, I guess you could call it *treatment*. Sue > > > What is the purpose of giving higher doses of Vit A during the > measles? Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Sue - do you know if the recovery time is different for children who receives vit A and how does it change the childs experience with the disease?
