Guest guest
What supplement and/or vitamin is best when you're sick, or feel yourself getting sick, like with a cold, flu, or some type of infection? I'm already feeling my immune system struggling and it's not even winter yet. Thank you! Sue B.
Guest guest
Here's what works for me; Lots of vit c zinc lozenges and yjr root of a very potent herb called porter's lovage. It works very well. Also- I stop everything and start treating myself as soon as I have the slightest symptoms. Get extra rest, too. Don't forget the water. Guest guest
Adrienne, I'll have to check out Porter's Lovage. Especially cause I'm having a shift in Immune System and some previous tricks aren't as effective. I also want to try Oil of Oregano. About Zinc, we do all differ don't we? I used to try Zinc, but could never tolerate it. I think it gave me a stomach ache and even hurt my throat. Does anyone know why that would be?...bad reaction to Zinc ? Guest guest
Vitamin C and l-Lysine are my companions along with cod liver oil which contains both vitamins A and D. Add lots of garlic and onions to the diet. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) Posted by: " sb2boys " _sb2boys@... _ (mailto:sb2boys@...?Subject=Re: Best%20supplement/vitamin%20when%20you're%20sick?) _sb2boys _ (sb2boys) Sun Oct 29, 2006 7:41 pm (PST) What supplement and/or vitamin is best when you're sick, or feel yourself getting sick, like with a cold, flu, or some type of infection? Guest guest
Hi, Katrina, I don't know if the P.Lovage is widely available, but I will send you some if you want. It is a southwest thing. Here it is called Osha'. (Accent at the end.) You use the whole root, and keep a bit in your mouth. Yr saliva becomes full of the active principle and slides down to where the infection has hit and-voila! Gone. People also make tea of it, but I just use the root-in-mouth, as I learned from my Native American husband. I hear that the Native Americans in Oklahama knew to use it as rattlesnake repellant when sleeping on the ground. It has a strong odor. Guest guest
I take it as often as I can remember to, aiming for every hour, but I don't split the dose, just take lots more. Guest guest
Zinc is another good cold fighter. You can buy zinc lozenges or what I prefer if the nasal spray. It's called Zinaz and it burns just a bit at first, but just press you nose and let it absorb. Viruses hate it and die. And since rhinoviruses stay only in the sinuses you've got a good shot at getting them. I do it at night so it stays put. Re: Best supplement/vitamin when you're sick? My reaction to Zinc is even more severe - it makes me vomit. Even just the little bit in those Celestial Seasonings cold care teas is enough to make me severely nauseous. So, uh, yeah, I'm curious as to what that could be too. Blessings, Lord...grant to me, your servant, the spirit of wholeness of being, humble-mindedness, patience and love. Thank you! > Sue B. > Like others who have posted, when I feel I have a bad cold I take very large amounts of vitamin C every day, taking a dose almost every hour. I also increase the amount of Pro-Boost I take from 1 packet/day to 2-3 packets/day, evenly spaced. I increase the amount of Olive Leaf Extract and Cordycepts I take from a maintenance dose of once a day to 3 times a day. If my sinuses are congested I use a Neti pot and irrigate them with a solution of sea salt and warm water (diluted to taste like tears). It feels weird at first, but u get used to it and its great for sinus problems. If I have a sore throat i suck on Zinc Lozenges several times a day. I drink alot of fluids and rest more then I usually do. I find it works best if i make a list and leave it on my kitchen table and refer to it often, so I dont forget to keep up with everything. I try to eat more frequent, smaller mini- meals and I make sure my stomach is full when I use the Zinc lozenges. Zuzu

Guest guest
Hey Gang, The post below made me think of an alternative to zinc lozenges, which I cannot take either due to the nausea and funny thing it does to the tongue! Elderberry lozenges. The ones I buy are from, I believe " Quantum " something-or-other like that. They taste awesome and do the trick for me especially when i have a sore-throat. They contain marshmallow which is a tissue soother. I also have the Elderberry in a syrup. I swear to you, between that and L-Lysine I got over my last cold in 36 hours flat. It's worth a try and it's a million times more pleasant than zinc. Tastes a bit like (from what I can remember) the raspberry syrup at IHOP. OH, the good ole' days!
