Guest guest Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Stoll, MD, recommends at least 9 grams of fish oil a day for mood disorders. The Omega COnnection is his book. Also see Mood Cures by Ross mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) 6) I used to love meat. Now I must force myself to eat it. In addition, while I can tolerate beef liver well, other forms of beef, especially hamburger meat, upset my stomach terribly (other varieties of meat don't upset my stomach). 7) I've developed frequent " gassy " stomach aches, somewhat relieved by antacid, but this may be due the stress I'm under. So what to do while waiting for the Yasko results? Any suggestions about supplements you give will be most appreciated. Thanks. Naomi Weisstein Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Talked to Dr. Cheney the other day, he wants me to shift over from Neurontin to Lyrica. Said it had better pharmakinetics, whatever that means. Thinks 75 mg of Lyrica equals 100 mgs of Neurontin, but I am questioning that, since he said the top dose for Lyrica is 600 mgs and I went back up to 1200 mgs of Neurontin, which would be 900 mgs of Lyrica. This is the first time he's mentioned Lyrica so his use of it must be pretty new. From what I've read, Neurontin loses power at high doses, and so maybe at a very low dose, the 75 to 100 holds up, but the power of Lyrica might cover the higher doses of Neurontin. Along those lines, some people take 3600 mgs of Neurontin, so how could 600 mgs of Lyrica cover them unless it is a lot more powerful than 75% of Neurontin? So I looked around on the web as best I could and saw one site saying Lyrica is 1/4 to 1/5 the dose of Neurontin. Called a pharmacist and he said no real equivalency but he thought 100 to 150 Lyrica would cover my 1200 Neurontin. Not sure how to do the switchover, am taking my Neurontin down now a bit while I ponder it and see my local doc soon to run it by her. Anybody knows anything about Lyrica, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Cynically, I note that Neurontin now has a generic version, so then Pfizer came out with Lyrica, which is very expensive. Although the pharmacist told me that Gabapentin, the generic of Neurontin, is still pretty expensive. Cheney finds these drugs valuable because they change the firing threshold of neurons and allow them to rest, and are calming. Neurontin helped me three years ago with a bad depression and it has helped my mother who has bad depression. Lyrica is supposed to be very similar. Cheney told me my best shot at the depression was to take 5 grams of fish oil, so doing that now. That's doubling what I've been taking for the last month. thanks, Helen Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Helen, I take Lyrica and it is in my humble opinion, it is a very superior drug! I take 50 mg twice a day with food. I tried Neurontin and even at lose doses it did not stop my nerve pain and just made me dizzy. The Lyrica has stopped the nerve pain, burning in my feet. It was a god-send for me.
