Hi Blake,

I've had all of these done. However the Faecal Microbial I had done at Great

Smokies three day one. Do you think this lab is more detailed in analysis as

the only thing that was abnormal on mine was that I didn't have any good

bacteria even tho I take plenty of Probiotics. I still have digestion issues

now and then for what appears to be no reason.

I do have leaky gut possibly from candida infection. Have antibodies to every

virus you named. Vit D good. Lyme positive. Tons of heavy metals. And high

levels of PCBs which was the only pesticide I checked for. Glutathione levels

good. Just had a liver function test results not back.

Any more thoughts? Thanks. Edy

Dear list,

The following is a list of laboratory tests I personally think are important for

CFS:

-Bioscreen (www.bioscreenmedical.com/) 'Faecal Microbial Analysis'. This test

was designed by a group of CFS researchers at the University of Melbourne,

Australia. It gives a quantitative and qualitative analysis of gut bacterial

balance, measuring a total of 12 microbial species.

-3-day stool parasitology via a reputable lab.

-Parasite (e.g. giardia and cryptosporidiuum) antigen and antibody testing, such

as via diagnos-Techs

-Intestinal permeability ('leaky gut') test.

-Blood vitamin D levels.

-Red blood cell glutathione.

-Infections (Mycoplasma (fermentans, penumoniae, hominis, penetrans), Chlamydia

(pneumoniae & trachomatis), Human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6), Cytomegalovirus (CMV),

Rickettsia infections, Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Lyme Disease).

-Provoked urine heavy metals.

-Pesticides testing.

-Functional liver detoxification profile.

Blake,

Nice job on this list. But I must add what many already know, you

have to have the mycoplasma and Lyme tests done at the right lab and

in the right manner. So many, even the experts (DeMeirleir) say only

10% of us are positive for borrelia when the standard lab tests are

all but meaningless.

Hi Edy,

I used to be a fan of standard stool flora measurements, but since swapping over

to Bioscreen's (www.bioscreenmedical.com/) test, I realize how primitive the

other tests are. I have emailed you a sample report. Standard reports do not

report overgrowths of strep, staph, entoerococcus, prevetoella, etc. that

bioscreen do and do not report bacteroides (good essential aerobic bacteria). I

think everyone should get this test done.

There are many many reasons for leaky gut, candida is a possible cause although

not the most likely. Most labs have an incorrect reference range for vitamin D.

See the vitamin D council website:

http://www.vitamindcouncil.com/treatment.shtml

Are you aware of the difference between 'liver function tests' (done by all

doctors) and a 'functional liver detoxification profile' (done by Great

Smokies)?
