First let me say welcome to the group! 16 months is pretty late to start

banding therapy, but if you were to use a DOC or STARband as opposed to a

passive helmet, I think you could still get results. Cranial Technologies

(the makers of the DOCband) treat babies up to 24 months. Check out their

webpage at www.cranialtech.com and see if there is a clinic near you. Perhaps

you could go in for a free consultation and see what they think. I'm so sorry

to hear that your ped did not take your concerns more seriously early on.

Unfortunately that is all too common - we hear the old " it will round out on

its own " ALL the time around here!!!!! I'm not sure repositioning would help

at this point, but if you could get him to tummy sleep if he doesn't already

that might help. I would say it is definitely worth a try.

Good luck and I'm glad you have found this group. You will find nothing but

support, advice and friendship here! Keep us posted.

Oh what a frustrating time for you-16 months I believe we will have other moms who will tellyou that they banded later and saw some results so it wouldn't hurt to try-if you feel that is what is needed. Repositioning is so difficult as they get older becasue they never keep their noggins inone spoat and are constant motion. Since the head growth has slowed -- he is right it mightnot get worse but could it get better? I would try helmet therapy now if you can -- what is the worse that can happen? And it is better alternative than plastic surgery. Here are 2 sites to check out-maybe give the DOC clinic close to you a call they can do a free evaluation and tell you what their opinion is-and I they will be honest. I am sorry you have to go through this it is so very frustrating! Please keep us posted!BeckOrthomerica Clinic Locations - Cranial Technologies For more plagio info

Kayleigh is 20 months and I would have banded her, except I can

barely keep clothes on her. She knows how to undo buckles, snaps,

buttons, clasps and zippers and I have no clue how we would keep the

helmet on. So we are hoping that that mother nature will do its

job. Otherwise we probably woulda banded as well just incase the

helmet did help more than just mother nature even though the neuro

told us he didn't know if it would help - so I would say if you want

to do it and you think your 16 month old would keep it on - do it!

ou have nothing to lose - only things to gain! Our decision was

based on our child, and at 16 months, if we had seen the doc then, I

would have had her banded cause she didn't know how to get things

undone and off then. Unfortunately, as you may have read, she was 19

months by the time we saw the specialist. I say make the decision

based on your child and as someone before me said - what have you got

to lose? Either decision is tough - I know I am still wondering if I

did the right thing.
