Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Hey Jill why not just do the calorie thing. Portions, water, and exercise. I am trying to cook the better family meal at dinner. And do my breakfast and lunch low low calorie. BUT with in my program. I am still struggling BUT working on it. NH... Mom to Abby Liz 10/94 Anne 7/99 Quote
Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Hi Heidi, Thanks for your reply! Where would I go to get my resting metabolic rate tested? And approx. what does it cost to have done? I have tried South Beach and in fact it is what my cardiologist recommended. I did loose good with it but after awhile I began getting bored with eating the same foods over and over. I have been thinking of looking at it again. And honestly I think 6 week body makeover is just a variant of south beach. I do so love bread though!! Ha! Ha! that's probably why I'm over 300 pounds right!?! Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll go pull that book out and take another look before I go blow more money on something else!! Jill Quote
Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Jill, Have you had your resting metabolic rate tested? We are about the same height and weight. For me to lose I should be on about a 2100 calorie a day plan, according to the math. BUT my metabolism is a little slower than that and I lose better at about 1700 calories a day. Maybe that is the problem? When I talked to my dietician she said that " chronic " dieting can lower your metabolism, sometimes dramatically. I think it is awesome that you have lost 16 pounds, that is great. And all that exercising is fantastic. Have you tried south beach? I found that plan to be pretty sensible, not no carb, but complex carbs and lowfat. And, it isn't too hard to eat out on that plan. It is basically what I do now, with a few more fruits added in. I haven't tried the 6 week body makeover, now do I know anyone that has. Good Luck, keep trying and I am sure you wilil find something. -Heidi On 7/14/06, jillk2136@... <jillk2136@...> wrote: hi everyone, I don't post too often but do try to keep up with whats going on best I can. I do know that's good and definetly better then not loosing or gaining, but I feel with as much as I have to lose it should've been more. Their own guidelines say that after the first 3 weeks you should be loosing 1% of your weight a week. Even following those guidelines I should've lost at least 42 pounds by now. I think my main issue is the price I am paying (which I really can't afford) and I'm not loosing like they say I should. I have been drinking my water and am doing great with my exercise. At least 45 minutes 5 times a week. I think their plan is too many calories and also too many carbs. I think I tend to do better when I cut back on the carbs. The other issue with JC is I am getting tired of cooking 2 meals every night. So a lot of times I am getting in the habit of giving my kids junk so I don't have to cook 2 meals, which is a habit I don't want to get into. There is also no room for going out to eat. Not that we go out a lot, maybe once a week. So I am sitting there eating nothing while my family eats and then I come home and eat. I don't know...I just don't think its working for me. I am tired of spending money on things that don't work. I've tried WW and s plan before. I am kinda looking at 6 week body makeover, anyone try that? Like so many of us I have tried about everything out there. Have lost all the way to goal and then gained it all back. Right now I am 316 and 5'10 " , would love to get to 175. I want to be able to cook one healthy meal for the whole family (at least most days of the week) so they are eating healthy also and I re-learn how to cook and eat healthy. So anyway...thanks for letting me vent!! LOL!! I am going to be looking at some different plans, I may just decide to do it on my own researching healthy recipes etc. Good luck to us all!! Jill Quote
Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 I am not entirely sure where to get it done. I did it at my gym with the dietecian and a trainer. It was ridiculously expensive, but I am glad that I did it since, she had me on a 2100 calorie plan and I was losing, but only abput .5 to 1 pound a week. I get my new plan next monday and I swear i beter see more results. The cost was $89 for the test and $45 for the mask that you breathe into while taking the test. I think that some Curves offer it and some doctors might as well. Hope you find something! -Heidi On 7/14/06, jillk2136@... <jillk2136@...> wrote: Hi Heidi, Thanks for your reply! Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Jill when was the last time you tried WW? Have you tried the Core program? I am finding that I really like it an it is easy to follow. I believe it would be prety family friendly as well. Diane __________________________________________________ Quote
Guest guest Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Oh, Jill, I can relate! To the expense of JC, to the having to cook multiple meals, to ALL of it! First, though, don't think 'just 16 pounds' because 16 pounds is a lot! Yeah, on us bigger gals it's not three pants sizes or anything, but still...that's a lot of weight! So great job Now, I'm a big believer that mindset is 90% of the fight, so instead of saying 'giving up', how about thinking of it as a 'change of pace away from JC'? I know, I'm a nut. But I swear, the moment 'giving up' enters my vocabulary, I'm done for. It sounds like you already know what needs to be done in terms of change of diet and such. If you lose better on fewer calories and lower carb, then go for it! You don't need to follow a specific book or plan, really, just do what you know needs to be done. But if you want that structure, I second whomever said to look into the WW Core plan--my mother in law does great with that! Congrats on the 16 pound loss and I'll be hoping that whatever you decide to do gets you moving even faster in the right direction! -Bonnie Quote

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with the JC program, Jill. 16 lbs in 3 months is great!! That's roughly a pound a week?? 's "challenge" is 5 lbs a month, so you are right on target with that too!! Even following those guidelines I should've lost at least 42 pounds by now. Ooooh wow, too fast in my opinion. That's 3+ lbs a week.... I think my main issue is the price I am paying (which I really can't afford) Yep, exactly. That's where they "lost" me... I *did* JC a number of years ago and the food/program costs are what killed that for me... The other issue with JC is I am getting tired of cooking 2 meals every night. So a lot of times I am getting in the habit of giving my kids junk so I don't have to cook 2 meals, which is a habit I don't want to get into. There is also no room for going out to eat. Only you can make those decisions. I agree about the work of cooking 2 meals though. Sometimes I think my kids think my kitchen is Perkins or something and they all can "order" different things.... not a happening!! Have lost all the way to goal and then gained it all back. Right now I am 316 and 5'10", would love to get to 175. Ouch, I am sorry to hear that hon.... but, hey... congrats on the 16 lbs that you have lost this time around!! Guest guest Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 I think I'm about to give it up. After almost 3 months I have lost only 16 pounds. Nuhuh, Nope absolutely not!!!! You ain't gonna give up!!!! Don't even think about it!!!! I do know that's good and definetly better then not loosing or gaining, but I feel with as much as I have to lose it should've been more. 3 months and 16 pounds! What is wrong with that figure ? That is the best rate to be losing weight at. Did you know statisis says that people that lose a average of 1 pound a week are the most likely to not regain the weight? Girl...you keep going. You are doing this thing right. You are right on track. I know you want it to go faster but have patience.....You are doing what is working. I can't afford any of the gyms or special plans like JC or WW. And to tell the truth you really don't need them. All eating plans have the same goal in mind. Eat less and move more. You can do that without any plan. All you need is some measuring cups and looking at the nutritional info that is on the label of almost every food you eat. This dosen't cost you a dime. You can fix one meal for the entire family and then just scoop your portion sizes onto your plate from your measuring cups. It's free and works under the same principle as any diet plan.....Eat less. Try the portion control and calorie counting. I have really found it is the best for me. I eat at Mcs, Arbys and anywhere else and always fix one meal for the entire family. Just find out how many calories you need to stay in.( I need 1500 to lose, anything over that and I don't lose nothing)and just add it up as you eat. As with any other plan it does work it you stick with it. I stopped adding my totals and I got stuck at the same weight but when I do it right and stay with it it is the best plan in my opinion. Free, Easy and convient. One meal for everyone. You can eat at any restraunt. Almost all fast foods has their calorie count on their wrappers or somewhere in the store. If you use it and stay with it , it is as good as any paid plan out there. Good luck to us all!! Jill Right! We all can use it. And you arent giving up! We aren't gonna let you:) Quote

Changing my lifestyle - that I can do and so can you I agree . I allow myself to "cheat" but, it really isn't cheating, since I'm not on a diet LOL!! I like to make it workable. If I want to kill myself eating sugar for the whole day (like Thursday) or eat out at fast food joints all day (like another day recently LOL) I go for it.... gotta make it whatever will work for you for the long haul. I was reading someone's journal in my PEER Trainer group and she wrote "I want to lose 40 lbs by the end of September" and I thought <smacking head against keyboard> WHY do that to yourself?? I am immediately doing the math in my head, that's roughly 10 weeks, so 40 lbs = 4 a week. OK, that *is* doable if you are really going to work out hard and deprive yourself in the food category (IMHO) but why.... when you quit working out hard and start eating *normally* again, it'll be much more difficult.... Anyway, I'll stick with my .5-1 lb a week loss that I can maintain overall.... Have a great day!! Quote
Guest guest Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 6 week makeover indirectly caused me to lose 65 pounds - I ordered it 5/03 and was so stoked to start dieting right then I whipped out my deal a meal cards and did RS for the next 9 months. When I got the blue print - I wasn't thrilled with eating plan - no red meat etc - I figured since I was already losing with RS, I stuck with it. I did like the workouts. I blew it in 05 and gained all but a few pounds back - and now I'm back in control and losing again. You said less carbs - how about making your own plan? You know what works for you. I have only tried counting calories, RS and the 6 week makeover - I'm not one for dieting. Guest guest Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 I know this is a really late response, but I have tried the 6week body makeover. The only problem and it was a huge one for me was it is so labor intensive. I just don't have time to plan 6 meals a day, then pack it and tote it around with me. It was not flexible enough if we decided to go out on the lake for the day. When I could keep up with it I have to say I was never hungry, because you get to eat every 2 to 3 hours. Some of the combinations were bizarre, but other than that I had no complaints. Patty > > hi everyone, > I don't post too often but do try to keep up with whats going on best I > can.
