Paediatric workers should get pertussis vaccinations

posted on 10 12 2004

Healthcare professionals working with infants should be vaccinating against

whooping cough, according to new research.

An Australian study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases found that as

many as 32% of adults with a coughing illness lasting 1 to 2 weeks or longer

are infected with Bordetella pertussi, the whooping cough virus.

'Pertussis is endemic,' said lead author Forsyth from Flinders

University, Adelaide, South Australia. 'We need high awareness and a high

index of suspicion of the disease, we want better and more standard

diagnostics and clinical definitions, and we want to see immunization be

more universally implemented, at least for adolescents and those around and

caring for young children.'

The study concludes that waning immunity underlies the continuing endemicity

of B. pertussis and suggests that vaccination strategies should be

reconsidered.

In Europe, they recommend adding booster vaccinations for preschoolers and

adolescents and selective vaccination of health care workers.

In Australia, Argentina, and Japan, universal vaccination of adolescents

could reduce morbidity in adolescents and young adults while enhancing herd

immunity.

So here we go.Another round of vaccines for teens.I am suprised they don't just

add a bit of squalene to the vaccine to boost its effectiveness. After all the

oil is natural and doesn't cause autoimmune reactions in people(that is just in

their head)- JUST IN ANIMALS used for autoimmune experiements.Duh! It was just

a matter of time before the aP vaccine was pushed on everyone.

Hello. I just looked on Sheri's site and looked for information on an aP

vaccine but didn't see one. Are they working on one for this kind of

situation?
