My 4.5 yr old is fully vacc'd and all I can tell you is that I would give anything to go back and undo what I did. I would give anything to not have any of that poison in his system Please read read read and ask questions. I first started looking into vaccinations when my son was born, and decided to delay them till I knew more. Well he's 5 years old now, and has a little sister, and niether of them have had any shots, and BOTH are healthier than I am! I took my son to " well baby " visits with a midwife, to avoid the arguments with a doctor. He's been to a " regular " doctor only twice, once for his two week old check up and once when he was 2 years old and I freaked out cause he had a fever (I can chuckle about that now) My daughter was born at home, and saw a regular doctor when she was 3 months, just to get us on the records kind of thing. Both visit the chiropractor, and I saw my homeopath alot with my son. When I was pregnant with my first (at 21) it didn't occur to me that allopathic medicine might not be safe. Boy, have I learned a lot! I still like to keep on top of things as they say you can always change your decision later (but cant reverse it once done) but so far nothings made me change my mind. originally i was concerned so thought I'd look into it to reassure myself, this led to the idea of part vaxing and delayed vaxing and requesting ones with certain ingredients etc. In the end it became apparant to me that on my lists of pros and cons there wasn't one major essential plus, but too many negatives or questions. So we started off gliding along seeing how it goes, open minded and we just went on from there. when are you due btw In this country vaccines aren't law so you can choose, although you may face some official opposition along the way. Abroad there is exemption which you'd need to get familiar with. Things like Tetanus also remember you can always get at the time of an accident, no need to be doing it before hand with a little babby. I would inform your gp/health authority after the birth about delaying vaccines so they won't keep hassling you about it. You might also want to look into your birth options and the vit K issue. I'm due June 10th, 2005...but I think I'm a bit further along than that (by two weeks maybe)...because I got pregnant so closely to when I miscarried. I'm in the process of finding a gp/peditrician for the baby (I really don't have a doctor)...we're a bit new to the area. What are people's thoughts on vit. K? Do you think it's bad even if it's orally administered? What do you think of the eye ointment? Sometimes i think we have it easier here but on the other hand it's no means easy, though a lot of things aren't law exactly (uk). As sue said, the eye ointment issue is surely a non issue, as no babies have it here - unless i guess it's a proper medical issue, in which case you'd take advice on that at the time, like anything else. The vit k, maybe you have the option of drops or injection? worth checking. Here its the injection but drops can be ordered if you're lucky. its also damned hard to refuse though theres even a refusal form in your pg notes, and even having a baby at home, it was hard to refuse, lots of banging my head against a wall, and when tired with a new baby totally inconvenient and unecessary. Certainly you can up vit k foods and if bfg it will go through. You could also take a pg vitamin containing vit k. Baby formula also contains extra vit k. Theres debate over what is a safe level of vit k and what is necessary-babies have lower levels but thats not necessarily a bad/thing to worry about, it's natural. Vit k is really a main issue only for traumatic/intervention births, blood issues. You can also have it later on. Theres a bmj article not ruling out links to leukemia. So we avoided it (finally!) - mws completely jaw dropped, couldn't beleive it - looked at me like i had signed a death warrant. An issue with oral was it contains animal ingredients -i disagree and worry about that. One mw eventually was supportive but didnt really care anyway as legally its up to me. Would check out before hand what you can do, what you need to sign etc in the U.S...like here i think if you're not looking they'll probably do what they like. I think we have less legal come back here though, it's seen as a regretable mistake, tough luck, kind of thing. Health system is different here, i had mw team linked to the doctor and hospital only for all my pg care and birth (at home). I had one scan at the hospital, that was it. Gas but no meds at birth. Since thta time the baby has had minimal check ups with the doctor (gp) - no meds, and really no illness either. Dont worry at all about dates, thats good even as gives you 2 weeks extra before anyone mentions anything. Babies can come 42 weeks or even later fine, if worried you can be monitored. Guest guest Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 I thought i had it in the bag, pg went without hitch, stated wanted a hb months in advance -even agreed to make amendments if emergency etc, what could anyone have a problem with. Come 40 weeks the red tape set in and it all was a disaster since then, left me feeling very cheated and miserable, to the extent that i worry about even having another baby now ...and that was with mws and a home birth LOL I think funding/training is a main problem, noone knows what they are doing and they panic. The trusts also panic and start laying down the law. With the change in IMS i wonder where it will end up, less choice is the way it's going. Different parts of the country are so different, the south is a lot more geared up for it, the north (i was first home (w.) birth in my region) you'v'e thought I'd just landed out of a rocket from Mars....6 fingers country. They've never seen anything like me, birth, parenting wise. Mcdonalds and pampers country. Vit k, eye drops, chicken pox, all pointless on the whole isn't it. shame for our american cousins. As we know with the vax cases, i fear parents may sue (if can afford to) but they probably wont get anywhere...and even if they do, the deeds been done already, you dont want an appology. HVs, thats another joke really. I'm just riled after reading about the new vaxes comming in here, i thought cp would be first, anyway, sounds pretty much like it's a done deal already Currently looking into daycare, what a nightmare that is! Guest guest Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 Cath, I find it funny--cause I've read in many places, how doctors will make you sign that you refused a vax. therefore they are not responsible if your child gets whatever they are vaxing against...so does that mean they take responsibility if your child IS vaxed and DOES get what they are vaxed against--I bet not!!! Oh, and I love the line, " if you don't vax we won't take you, because you'll be putting others in our practice at risk, " my response, " HA!! If they're vaxed, they shouldn't have anything to worry about, right???? Or are you saying that vax. doesn't work, and that you agree with me?? " Oh people can be so stupid sometimes!
