Guest guest
see if their is a DAN doc in the area whose practice is not limited to autism spectrum. Guest guest
How about a chiropractor? Kay ************************ I want to bring the baby to the doc, monthy then bi-monthly for the first year, for weight and physical developmental checks etc.. I'm going to interview more peds, and one is a DO, but I'm afraid he may be a sell-out to modern medicine also. Does anyone have any advice? I do want to be able to take my kids when I need to... and there are no homeopathic docs near me. Can anyone offer any advice? If so I'd love it! Guest guest
I'm inclined to agree, I never had my children weighed or checked by a doctor or health nurse ever, I just knew they were fine and if they weren't I saw my homeopath. The only time we saw a doctor was for injuries and bad cuts etc for stitches, where he would say - when was his last tetanus injection and I would say " only 2 months ago - he'll be fine " . People are often amazed that we don't have a " family doctor " but honestly - why would we have one...as we rarely ever get sick. > >Hi Everyone! > > > >I have only been on and off because I just had the baby... so I'm > >sorry I'm just popping on to ask questions... Guest guest
Hi Laur...congrats. Why do you want to take the baby to the doc so often? I only went twice in a year, if they're not sick, what's the benefit? (as well as being around potentially sick people)...as others have said, you can weigh and measure them yourself. Didnt have vit k as not law in uk but had humongous difficulty rejecting it, real hassle for weeks on end. cant you get religious exemption or something over there? Next time you see them i guess by their own admission you can say well such and such told me i have until 18ms...that ends that discussion. Maybe theres a register of family supporting peds over there? not sure. heck we dont even have that here, just local mulittask doctors. I's not law to take them to a consultant is it? if not, then dont take them, do the checks youraself and avoid the hassle. go to them when the childs sick and not before, if then even. Not sure of usa? specifics but thats my 2c generally, if you're not sick, don't see a doctor lol bw Almasysk (home birth water baby 2003, unvaxed and healthy)
Guest guest
Laur, I'll congratulate you again!! Congrats! lol I totally understand thinking you want to take the baby to the doctor! I had Liam 17 months ago. We go to a non-vaxing group of doctors (they actually do homebirths as well). I took Liam in for a one week weight check ..... peace of mind. LOL and at 2 weeks .... and at 6 weeks..... 150.00 a pop to put him on a scale and measure him. I made a 3 month appointment. I called and cancelled when it conflicted with vacation. I made a 6 month appointment which we went to .... again 150.00 for them to tell me he's gaining great (couldn't I see that? LOL) he's meeting all the milestones (again, was I blind?) .... He didn't go back until we all ended up with pertussis at 13 months. They saw him 3 more times to make sure he wasn't losing weight (he gained a pound in 2 weeks ... they were in awe) and to make sure it hadn't turned into pneumonia. He hasn't been back. I do have an 18 month appt scheduled just so that I have it on record that he's receiving yearly medical care. In IL, you can't be charged with medical neglect for non-vaccination, but man alive, I wouldn't want the idiots at CPS showing up at my door after an ER visit. Although the docs are wonderful and told me what to say the one time I thought I'd have to take Liam to the ER, having it on record that he's being seen periodically makes me feel better IF I ever have to deal with the powers that be! We will go at 18 months because I have some concerns about his weight. He pretty much weighs the same now as he did when he had pertussis. He nurses but he just is NOT a big solids eater (better in the last 2 weeks). Anyhoo .... I wish I Knew of someone in NY. Maybe go to www.homefirst.com and call them and ask them if htey have any affiliates in NY. Best Wishes with that new little one! Guest guest
Really? I never even considered that.... why a chiropractor? I guess I had the wrong idea, I thought chiropractors were only for back and spine problems? Will they see infants? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi! Thanks for your responses! It's funny, I can't say that I disagree with you when you say " why bother? " And it makes sense, " if you don't like football why go to a game? " That's pretty much how I feel about docs and peds. My husband rolls his eyes at me too. I suppose it just gives me peace of mind. I'm knowledgeable and educated in some areas of health and to some degree, but I don't know everything and sometimes I need advice etc... you know what I mean. It just makes me feel better to take them now and then to " make sure " . I know it may not make a whole lot of sense to many of you... but some will get me LOL I am also quite certain that they will not get sick very much. Once we stopped vaxing my first two (why oh why did I ever do it atall!) they haven't really been sick since besides one low grade fever and some sniffles during season changes, maybe a little tummy ache when Grandma feeds them and that's it. However, Godforbid they do get sick, I want to be able to take them somewhere, and with my newborn, I'd like to take him for the regular checks... like I said if only for peace of mind and some advice and discussion... that is why I'd LOVE to find someone who can atleast half agree with my family lifestlye and choices. You'd think NYC is sooooooo liberal with all the anti-republican stuff going on, but it's really very typical middle-class-mainstream around here. I have had suggestions of a chiropractor and/or a DAN Doc, I'd like to hear more about those options. I did find a general practicioner DO that I haven't interviewed yet, but I'm afraid he's probably a sell-out Sigh. Anyway, thanks so much for your help! Guest guest
Chiropractic care does deal with the spine, but the spine has Every single nerve connection running through it to every single part of your body. I've taken all my kids to the chiro for Years~ and my last 3 babies were seen within 2 or 3 days after birth. Misalignments are common during the birthing process... which can lead to ear infections, trouble nursing on one side or the other, constant crying, colic, etc. I do have a pediatrician, but we never see him. He's ok with us not vaxing and has never given me problems (in fact was extremely supportive of only breastfeeding even when my youngest wasn't really growing), but I Still got nervous walking into the office! lol I feel much more comfortable with our chiro and he knows we consider him our primary caregiver. :-) Jan G. Guest guest
I have not had regular chiro care since it is really expensive for me to do so. However when chiros adjust infants they usally use a pinky and apply gentle pressure to the area where it is out alingnment. Chiro care is not only for problems it is also for general wellness. http://www.mercola.com/2003/nov/12/beyond_bad_backs.htm This arlticle is a first in a series of articles at Dr. Mercola's website. This article talks about that not all chiropractors are good but generally they are. I didn't have any colicy babies but I did notice that my 2nd child had alot of gas and he got adjusted and almost had no gas whatsoever. Anyway the article above talks about it alot. I think I will look for one, I know there are many of them around. Please tell me, is there anything particular I should ask or discuss when I go to see them to make sure that they are what I'm looking for? Thanks! Guest guest
Here is another thing you can try that is expensive at first but is cheaper than doctor visits. You can get a digital baby scale on E-Bay or various other places. It is easy to measure thier height. Just lay them down somewhere against something with their head against the wall or the arm of a couch and mark the distance after you remove the child. The scale is a great monitoring tool as well if you want ounces to be measured. If you dont want to go the scale route you could find an accurate scale weigh yourself and yourself with the child and do the simple math. There are plenty of websites that update you you about where your child should be developmentally. Babycenter will send you updates monthly or as needed to give you details. They will tell you how you should vaccinate as well but you likely know better than to just go along with all medical advice. April Subject: Re: doc? Guest guest
My Chiro is very gentle, and basically just picks up the baby (well thats all it looks like) She has a move she calls the swing where she'll pick the baby up by their heels and let them hang upside down for a minute.... They do lie down for a neck adjustment but neither kid ever fussed or cried about any of it. Gillian will POOP right after being adjusted, like clockwork, it cracks me up..... Guest guest
Besides doctors do not have the mothers instinct. My daughter would have been treated as a failure to thrive baby if I did not trust my instincts before anything anyone else or the doctor said. The growth charts are all based on bottle fed babies. They need charts based on breast fed babies to make more sense. If your child is happy and well adjusted, then who needs a doctor to tell you they are fine. wings <wingsout@...> wrote: Here is another thing you can try that is expensive at first but is cheaper than doctor visits. You can get a digital baby scale on E-Bay or various other places. It is easy to measure thier height. Just lay them down somewhere against something with their head against the wall or the arm of a couch and mark the distance after you remove the child. The scale is a great monitoring tool as well if you want ounces to be measured. Guest guest
Laurette, I would look for a Chiropractor that is willing to set up a complimentary consultation appointment for you when you tell him/her that you are looking for a family wellness Chiropractor. If they're willing to do that then at least you know they are open to a patient who has questions and they are willing to be interviewed for the job. YOU are hiring THEM. Then you need to prepare for the interview with questions that can be answered in 20/30 minutes. I think that's enough time to get a feel for the doctor/office/staff. Be sure to read all the info on Dr. Mercola's site about chirpractic care. That will help you know what to look for. I'll be real interested to hear your experiences. I'd like to think all the Chiropractors are as good as all the ones I know but recently I've heard some stories contrary to this. * Hi, I really appreciate everythign about the chiropractors! I think I will look for one, I know there are many of them around. Please tell me, is there anything particular I should ask or discuss when I go to see them to make sure that they are what I'm looking for? Thanks! Yes, that was a book that very much influenced me 19 years ago when my oldest was born (frank breech at home). It gave me the confidence that I needed to stand up to the powers that be in regards to her healthcare. His observations and conclusions still ring true today. He was a medical heretic and I respect him for that highly recommend! Guest guest
Agree, growth chart averages, i myself was low on one for years but i went to another doctor later on and he said i wasn't - same weight. Then get this, I'd just had a baby, was 10 stone, 5ft 9, bfg and the doctor tells me I'm overweight! (doctor no 3) cor blimey! if thats medical advice for you!, I'm not optomistic on the babies weight assessment. They also say the weight drops a degree so if centiles drop thats natural. Babies weight is fine, health more importantly fine (my calculations) yet she is in clothes one or two years ahead of her age as they dont fit...now whose measurements are out there then?! When were these growth charts last updated?/assessed. Babys cousin, 6 months older is smaller, 1 shoe size down, and mine was eating 3 times as much food as her last time we heard...not that theres a problem in that - just that all babies, genetically, culturally grow up differently! even within the same race/family. Next time would buy some baby scales myself now I've seen them and not even bother with the clinic at all to cover the " I've had the yearly check " element, having now had experience of it (very unscientific, waste of everyones time)...all they did was ask me if I'd noticed anything, how i felt about her progress, didnt do full measurement checks and said any delays would be natural as she was having her test a week early and probably not at that stage yet... I mean, they told me the hearing test was a waste of time anyway, and " does she seem to hear you ok " and if that's what they're saying themselves about it - grrr A -- In Vaccinations , lisa jane <lisafieldman@y...> wrote: > Besides doctors do not have the mothers instinct. Guest guest
Hi , I beleive that you are a chiropractor is that correct? Do people bring babies to you? Also, just so I know that I understand correctly, would you be able to see a patient who has a cold or flu or something like that? Of course I wouldn't expect a flu or cold to be treated in the same way an MD would treat it. But basically, I'm looking for someone to bring the kids to for wellness and if they do happen to get sick. Would I be able to see a chiropractor for this? And if so, I guess I would just ask them these questions then? Thanks so much! Guest guest
I've always taken the kids, and myself to the chiro first if we get a cold or flu thats particularly nasty....... seems to work for us. Its helped my son more noticably - he'd get REALLY snotty after the visit, and then get over it really fast. An adjustment has also always helped if I thought an ear infection was on the way..... (never been confirmed, because I don't LOOK inside the ear myself - just seen stuff coming out the ear) Chelly Owner of: http://www.diapertesters.com Re: doc? Sorry!
