That was suggested, even begged for by the mayor of that city, but not even the movie theater would agree to do any validations because it wasn't " mall policy " . This has been going on over 10 years (and 3 or 4 mayors) and every suggestion had been made. The best thing they conceded to was to make available a long-term parking rate for the store workers and commuters who want to park there. Otherwise the parking lot stays a pay lot and about twice a year the prices increase.
Guest guest
You know what they should do? They should have some kind of program in place where they can validate a parking ticket charge for the shoppers only. That way, you go free but the " parkers " will have to pay. Why don't you suggest it to management? Marie OT - mall parking >I can't believe you have to pay for mall parking. I've never heard of such a thing. Good old urban NJ. I think we're one of only 2 malls in the entire United States where you have to pay for parking. Many people/politicians complain, but the mall management says as long as people are using the lot and *not* using it for long term parking, they're going to keep charging. You see, about a half block away is a subway station for trains that goes over to Manhattan, and without charging these high amounts, people from all over, including NY (Staten Island) come and park there for hours or even days at a time. By charging such high amounts it keeps the commuters out of the lot and leaves what little space there is for shoppers. The mall is small enough that the majority of people *can* get all their shopping done in less than an hour, shopping and a quick bite in under 2, but add a movie to that, and your afternoon matinee is now running you almost $20. Ed & I no longer go to movies, and when Henry & his friends do, they drive 20 miles away to another mall with a newer theater. The tickets cost less and parking is free. When Mel Gibson's movie comes out, if it's at our local mall's theater, I plan on taking the light rail to get there. We have 2 monthly passes - Ed and I share one and the kid uses the other, so our trips cost under a buck each way. I prefer to take the light rail - no worries about driving through bad neighborhoods, no worries about someone breaking into my car when it's parked, and of course, it's cheaper. I now take my car only when happing form the mall to other stores int he general area that aren't within walking distance, or when I know I'm buying something big and don't want to carry it all on the train. Today I got a video game, 2 books, and a video tape, so it all fit into my nifty mesh shopping bag. Because I was taking the train, I easily talked myself out of buying a pressure cooker that was on sale. Ed will be happy about that! Guest guest
One of our malls in town has paid parking. The above ground meters cost $0.25 for 12 minutes. Underground, the first 3 hours are free, but then it is $3 for 3-4 hours, $4 for 4-5 hours, and $6 for over five hours. They have monthly passes for mall employees and those who want to use the underground for winter/long-term vehicle storage. I think the monthly fees are $75, and the employees have to foot that bill themselves -- most opt to take the bus (the main bus depot/stop is right in front of this mall) as the monthly adult bus pass costs $55. Must dash... later! Kara --- Original Message ----- > This has been going on over 10 years (and 3 or 4 mayors) and every suggestion had been made.
